Ikkoten Omakase – Hidden Omakase at Telok Ayer

We had a business lunch at Ikkoten Omakase. Well, I didn’t exactly shortlist the place but since we had an opportunity to have Japanese, we were actually excited to give it a try. The colleagues were surprised that I didn’t try this place before but in my defence, I said do you know how many omakase places there are in Singapore? Ha

The place was quite empty. It was just us and another couple. We had pre-selected the Matsu menu priced $128++ which was a 6-course Kaiseiki menu and lunch started soon after

Sakizuke – Crab Meat, Yuba, Ikura

This was quite a refreshing starter. You get the soft yuba sheet and the sweetness of the broth though the crab meat felt a little icy and the ikura wasn’t exactly the best. It felt they didn’t quite defrost the crab meat properly

Otsukuri – Tai, Japanese Yam, Uni

Tai wasn’t fresh. It lacked the sweetness of a white fish. Japanese yam felt a little forced, like it was placed there to create texture for the sake of creating one. And the Hokkaido uni, because of the quality of the uni itself, made the entire dish bitter. The entire dish felt like different pieces of puzzle coming together yet couldn’t stick together

Maguro, Negitoro

The quality of Akami was average but I thought the truffle soya sauce made it appetising and more palatable. I liked the crunchy bits and the pickles that made the dish taste a little different

Tempura – Kuruma Ebi, Mushrooms

This was a little oily and batter a little thick. Kudos to the tempura sauce which saved the day

Nabemono – Wagyu Sukiyaki

This was by far, the nicest thing of the entire meal. Beef was good, broth was good too

Collagen Donabe

Signature Sakura Ebi Donabe Meshi, Miso Soup & House-made Pickles

Signature Donabe, cooked using fish collagen. Honestly, rice was a little bland and it could be have been a little more fragrant. The entire dish felt a little more palatable cos the pickles. Cos the rice was so bland, the pickles enhanced and brought out the cook of the rice

Dessert – Hojicha Ice cream w Pine Nuts

I thought the hojicha icecream was very average but the friend said she thought this icecream was the nicest out of the entire meal. lol

I secretly asked the friend what she thought about the meal? She said it was very normal, and well, that’s why I don’t need to try this place. For the price point, quality was very average and it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me. I guessed there’s no need to return anytime soon
