The Botanic – Nature-Inspired Dining at Raffles City Shopping Centre

Taken over the space left by Salt Tapas & Bar, The Botanic is a recreation of conscious dining inspired by nature. The place was very crowded when we were there for dinner (and understaffed as well) so we ended up helping ourselves with the wine and water. lol Anyway, The Botanic gave a different ambience with its cherry interior and lighting and I do think it actually looks more beautiful in daylight

Sweet Potato Fries $9

The friends had fries while I had a drink while waiting for the rest of the company to arrive. Clearly, different priorities. The fries were soft, a little different from your usual sweet potato fries. They don’t taste bad, but perhaps we were just not used to the texture

Charred Eggplant $18

Tahini, Chickpeas, Chermoula, Soft Herbs

Not a fan of eggplants, but this actually do taste pretty good

Free Range Scotch Eggs $15

Falafel, Tabouli, Yoghurt, Lemon & Cucumber

I thought it looked better than it tasted. I thought the falafel was a little too thick which was a tad disappointing, else I really like the yoghurt bed that came along with it

Grilled Haloumi $22

Heirloom Tomato, Sumae, Watermelon, Pomegranate Molasses

Probably the best among the appetisers. We wanted the burrata but it was sold out. So we ordered the Haloumi and they recommended it as well. It was delicious. Love the slightly salted and burnt taste of the cheese along the refreshing combination of tomatoes and pomegranate

Grilled Cape Grim Pasture-Fed Sirloin $42

Roasted Onion, Slow Cooked Tomato, Chimichurri

Almost of all us went for the sirloin, which was a mistake. It was.. forgettable

Harissa Spiced Spatchcock $29

Labneh, Smokey Eggplant, Garlic Chives, Burnt Lemon, Verde

The friend went for the chicken but judging from the lack of enthusiasm / response, I guessed there was nothing extraordinary either

With a mix of Asian and Middle Eastern influences, I thought it didn’t quite match the expectations. There’s certainly room for improvements though it would probably take awhile for me to return
