15 Stamford by Alvin Leung – Recreating Familiar Local Dishes

15 Stamford is the second venture by celebrity chef Alvin Leung, who is known for his extreme creation of Chinese cuisine. When I first saw the menu for 15 Stamford, I thought it looked pretty interesting and I was excited when I could finally try this place at Capitol Kempinski Hotel. The interior is beautifully designed in a warm and relaxed amber tone to get you settle in for what the place got to offer. With plush leather seats and high ceilings, it looks as expensive as it could get

Did I mention the menu comes in form of iPad?

Hokkaido Scallop, Sakura Plum, Shiso & Plum Jelly $26

Kickstaring with starters, the raw scallops were drizzled in a plum sauce. I thought the dish tasted pretty normal but I do like the addition of shiso leaves to make it somewhat special

Laksa, Chargrilled Tiger Prawns, Smoked Onsen Quail Eggs $32

Probably one of our favourites, the laksa was packed fragrance of dried shrimps. Made using in-house rempah, the creamy and thick coconut broth was quickly finished up after a few spoonfuls

“Har Mi” Linguine & Tiger Prawns $36

It’s fragrant but that’s about it

Chargrilled “Bak Kut Teh” Pork Chop, Compressed Watermelon & Angelica BBQ Sauce $38

Really enjoyed the pork chop where you can taste the beautiful angelica flavour and a distinctive bak kut teh sauce

Roasted Cod Fish, Scottish Razer Clams, Lemongrass, Coconut & Foie Gras Sauce $48

Thought the cod was nicely done as well but pretty much nothing memorable

French Toast, Dulce de Leche Icecream & Raspberry Compote $16

It’s an interesting dish. Would definitely prefer the french toast to be softer and more eggy

Gula Melaka Creme Brûlée, Lime Sorbet & Cherry Meringue $16

We all preferred the creme brûlée instead that brings out a beautiful gula melaka. Definitely something to order for desserts!

I thought the food was decent at best. Being located at a centralised location, the convenience is probably the most distinctive factor. Otherwise, honestly, there are many other places that serve better atas local food as well
