Butterknife Folk – Drop By For Cakes, Gelato & Coffee at River Valley Road

Being next dessert place on the radar, the friend and I dropped by one weekend at noon. The place is located at the end of Mohd Sultan Road and is walkable from Clarke Quay mrt. The space is divided into two parts: ordering in front while some seats being located the back of the shop. They don’t have a big seating area and the back is unusually cold when we visited so this place is mainly for takeaways. They were barely ready when we were there with only two cakes on display so we just waited for awhile and trying some of their gelato

Flat White $4.50

The flat white was pretty decent with a nice aroma and well roasted body

Hot Chocolate $5.50

Croque Monsieur $5.50

The smell lingered throughout the shop when two Croque Monsieur were being brought out and since we didn’t have lunch, we got one to share. We have to admit, it was pretty delicious. The croissant was crispy, soft with a savoury ham and melted cheese to top with.  Give it a try if you are lucky to see it on display

Fraisier $8

Genoise, Strawberry Syrup, Fresh Strawberries, Mascarpone Chantilly

Their take on strawberry shortcake. Fresh cream with evenly layered sponge cake with sweet berries, soft and sweet to taste, it is an option to consider if you like something rich and sweet

Bohemian Raspberry $8

Chocolate Raspberry Crémeux, Chocolate Sponge, Raspberry Coulis, Reconstituted Gianduja Hazelnut Sauce

For the chocolate lovers, this is one cake you will never miss. We thought the cake was okay, and it got a little too jelat towards the end

Processed with Snapseed.

Fruit Loop $8

Lemon Mousse, Strawberry Jelly, Pistachio Sponge, Butter Sable

Probably our favourite out of the lot. Visually, it is outstanding with an attractive red colour . Taste-wise, carefully balanced with sweetness and acidity and a pistachio aftertaste. I will probably order this again

I thought their cakes were pretty decent but I would have preferred if they have the cakes and pastries ready when they are opened for the day, rather than waiting for the cakes to come out one at a time. Or if not, indicate somewhere which cakes will be available for that day so customers will know whether to wait or not. On the upside, the cakes are priced pretty much reasonably for the quality offered and without GST. So for those who are enjoying a meal nearby, do drop in for a taste of their delights. Do note they close at 8pm
