402. Au Petit Salut

Part of the Salut group, the sister restaurant of Chez Petit Salut, this restaurant sits at a corner of Dempsey. It wasn’t exactly inaccessible since I realized later on the bus stop was just right behind the restaurant. I like the environment it was in, isolated and undisturbed and it’s a good place for some quiet family session.

Al Fresco area which was quite spacious

Bread (Complimentary)

The parents love the bread, a lot.

Steamed Egg Custard, Chorizo and Herb Toast

The egg texture reminds me of chawanmushi, but with a lighter taste. I actually preferred the toast to the bread. It was warm and crispy and together with the herbs, it was very good and appetising.

I realise French cuisine likes to incorporate the use of foam a lot

Warm Confit Hokkaido Scallops, Salsify & ‘Ice Lettuce’ (+10)

There’s nothing to rave about though the scallops were beautifully cooked

Sauteed Duck Foie Gras, Smoked Chocolate, Almonds, Port Currants & Horseradish (+12)

The foie gras was sauteed really well. Taut on the outside and it melts on the inside. I was impressed.

Braised Beef, Chioggia Beetroots, Parsley Anchovy Crumble & Caper Berries

Very flavourful. Meat was really tender. The dad couldn’t stop raving about this.

Fillet of Snapper, Cauliflower & White Chocolate Emulsion, Seaweed Tartare

A very no-frills dish. Meat was cooked beautifully

Cauliflower and white chocolate, a strange yet successful combination. Though too much of the sauce will be too gelat in my opinion

Capellini Pasta, Crab, Tiger Prawns, Baby Scallops, Tomato & Herbs (+12)

I got a shock when my pasta came. The portion was certainly not something I expect. I left with one third unfinished after the parents helped me with another third. This dish reminds me of maggi mee in seafood-infused tomato sauce. Haha though I have no recollection that there were tiger prawns in it. But looking at this picture, I could use some of this right now.

Dessert de Jour Daily Chef’s Creation

Green Tea Cake with Vanilla Icecream

Date & Fig Cake, Chocolate, Pistachio Nuts & Vanilla Icecream

Soya Cheesecake, Blueberry Compote, Vanilla Crumble & Violet Sorbet

Celebrated my dad’s birthday as well 🙂

Desserts were ordinary and nothing spectacular. That being said, I still enjoy my meal here. And it’s so much better as compared to Chez Petit Salut in terms of quality, presentation and environment. A place to consider if you are just looking for a good meal in an enjoyable setting.
