Wanted to have dim sum on a weekend so I decided to give Mansion 7 a try since their menu looked interesting. We arrived early and there was nobody at the restaurant. Am not sure they are not famous for dim sum or people usually go for their main menu which lunch starts at 11am

Typhoon Soft Shell Crabs Rice Roll $14.80

Wrapped with rice rolls, the soft shell crab was crisp though I felt the rice rolls were a little thick. It would be better if they were thinner

Imperial Prawn Dumpling w Bamboo Shoot $11.80

The prawn dumplings were quite bland in my opinion. It lacked the succulence of a prawn filling and the skin was a little thick

Siew Mai $10.80

Which honestly was quite disappointing. The siew mai felt like one I could buy from a supermarket, frozen and steamed at home

Sichuan Mala Beef Hedgehog Puff $14.80

Personally, this was really cute. This was 100 points for visuals but the flavours don’t really work. The outer layer was a touch oily, a little too mochi-kind of chewy with a mala beef filling within that was a little strange in my opinion

Carrot Squid Paste Cake $14

This would be the closet resemblance to fried carrot cake, though mixed with squid paste to make it different. I say this dish tasted the most decent out of all, though nothing wow about it either

Grandma’s Double Roll $13.50

This was something I can’t understand. It felt like something fried with a mochi texture within and that’s about it. I can’t tell what’s the highlight about this. Grandma needs to reflect on this

Given this was Cantonese restaurant, I had expected some standards about their dim sum. I get they were trying to be innovative but I thought fundamentals are important as well. Sad to say, this was a very disappointing meal
