Lộ Quậy – Modern Vietnamese Restaurant That Needs Some Imagination

We decided to check out Lo Quay on Amoy street that sports an interesting cuisine. The place was surprisingly packed for lunch even though there were still plenty of seats available for reservation. Anyway, only the set lunch was available but you can choose from the 2-course (priced $58++) or 3-course lunch (priced $68++)

Wagyu Tartare | Quail Egg | Shrimp Salt Puffs +$10

I had the wagyu tartare as appetiser. I thought it was decent especially when you eat it together with the puffs

Eryngi Mushrooms | Black Glutinous Rice | Egg Miso

The friend had the mushrooms, shaped like scallops. I actually preferred this, for its creativity and it’s definitely more flavourful as compared

We had some complimentary bread and salad which I thought was abit strange. I thought it was a modern take on bahn mi but neither the flavour nor texture was alike. Don’t really understand where their inspiration came from but eating this made me confused

But the friend thought the salad was not bad. I gave all to her. lol

Tiger Prawn | Green Chilli | Salmon Roe

We both had the prawns. I found the prawns so-so. It was slightly slimy but yet cooked on some part but the roes made it really salty. The friend brought her friends there a second time and ordered the prawns again, and concluded it’s definitely salty. So well, there’s room for improvement

I wanted to skip desserts but the friend wanted to try them. We asked the server to recommend and he recommended the peanut gelato but we wanted something light so in the end… we ordered both. lol

Peanut Gelato | Sesame Cremeux | Yuzu

Almond Panna Cotta | Longan | Snow Ear

The server came back to ask which one I preferred, and I said neither. He was shocked. And the friend went – I didn’t expect you to be so honest (lol). I’m Asian. Not nice just say not nice la. I’m paying for this anyway. In the end, they waived the cost of desserts for us

For every restaurant I go to, I go without expectations. But for this place, I am really confused after eating. I understand they try to recreate Vietnamese cuisine with a modern take. But it’s definitely not up my alley. And guess I’m not gong back anytime soon
