With more hawkers serving hippie food at reasonable prices these days, we have found ourselves another one on the radar at Amoy Street Food Centre. Gyu Nami has only one item on their menu, which is the Wagyu Roast Beef Donburi. I didn’t spot any queue out of the stall when I visited which is considerably lucky since it was lunch time. So I anticipated what to be served
The picture here is really nicely taken which kind of raises the expectation a little
Wagyu Roast Beef Donburi $10
Well, the result was 60% similar I guess
Presentation aside, the beef was slice thinly which gave an easy chewy texture. Though I’m not sure if serving the beef cold is intentional. I would have preferred my beef hot
Love the pearl-like rice that was sweet with a slightly chewy texture, and the sweet sauce that comes along with it. The whole beef bowl was enhanced with a peppery kick that added flavour to it
Overall I thought this beef bowl was okay. Perhaps they could improve on their stacking and do without the yoghurt sauce which I couldn’t quite put a finger to. Or rather enhance the flavour of the beef so that we could do without the sauce. Portion-wise, it was enough for me though I wouldn’t say the same for others. I would say this was a good enough effort and I might consider giving it a second chance if adjustments would be made. For $10 a bowl, you can say it is definitely affordable enough
