Vatos Urban Tacos – When Korean & Mexican Come Together

With a different combination of fusion establishments, this time round we have Vatos Urban Tacos bringing us Korean inspired Mexican fare, which sounds interesting. The result could either be an exciting explosion or a total disaster and I was actually curious to find out. Located right next to South Beach Tower, the restaurant was sizeable. Dinner on weekends see a 2-hour limit seating so as to accommodate more diners. It was pretty crowded and can get loud and noisy at some point in time

Passion Fruit Makgeolitas (left) Mango Makgeolitas (right) $26 each

A combination of tequila and makgeoli, the menu cautioned this was strong. Yes it was strong indeed but more likely cos we tasted so much tequila we couldn’t really taste the makgeoli. It was like the makgeoli never existed. The drink got more juicy towards the end and I must mention, the drink was huge enough for 2 to share

Kimchi Charnitas Fries $18

Seasoned Fries with Braised Pork Carnitas, Sauteed Kimchi, Melted Cheese Topped with Sour Cream, Vatos Hot Sauce, Cilantro and Onions

A pretty huge portion, good for sharing. We love the fries, and the well cooked pork complemented with a burst of spicy tangy flavours

Spicy Chicken Quesadillas $17

Spicy Chicken Topped with Arbol Chilli Sauce, Cilantro & Onions

The quesadillas here are a little more well done though there was certainly no taste of spice

Longhorn Burger & Fries $24

All-beef patty, Beer Battered Onion Rings, Cheddar Cheese, Garlic Horseradish Mayo and Maple Bacon in housemade Bourbon BBQ sauce

A pleasant surprise, this burger was delicious. The patty was nicely done with the super crispy onion rings topped with the sweet and crispy bacon. The BBQ sauce and melted cheese rounded off the dish nicely

I certainly do feel Korean-Meixcan fare is something different but will I come back here again? Maybe, maybe not. I feel like the food is okay, but that’s that. Though undeniably the huge crowd implies there must be something here that draws people here to visit. Or perhaps the idea of Korean Mexican might not entice me that much afterall
