This place was a result of random googling, just cos the friend wanted to have French cuisine for her birthday and so we googled: French brunch cafes Singapore. It isn’t exactly French, but contemporary modern cuisine with French cooking techniques. haha I know we cheated but the menu looks good! And the best part was 3 course brunch set @ $49, how not to resist! So we decided to dine there and try it out. Bistro Soori located at Teck Lim road was very quiet for a weekend, probably cos most of the cafes/restaurants there don’t open on Sunday or people just don’t normally venture that area during weekends. Either way, we had the whole place to ourselves
So we have a selection of starters, a few mains (out of the many) and we tried everything off the desserts
Wild Mushroom Soup w Garlic Crouton
Confit of Portobello Mushroom, Spinach, Semi-dried Tomato Mozzarella
Tomato Soup, Cheese Sandwich
18 Months Aged Parma Ham and Arugula Salad, Pistachio, Parmesan Chip, White Balsamic
In my opinion, the starters were pretty good. I specially love my parma ham with arugula salad and the parmesan chips. Even though the chips were scattered, the taste of parmesan was evident which added a lovely touch to the salad. I think the whole table was pretty satisfied with their starters too, which I think was a good start to the meal.
Next up, mains
Pulled Pork Sandwich, Multigrain Toast, Arugula Salad
The pork was nicely flavoured and tender though they probably gave an overwhelming portion of vegetables
Short Rib Hash, Bacon, Potato, Chilli, Egg, Toast
I love the short rib hash too. The combination of the ribs, potato and the buttered toast was just amazing
Wagyu Beef Patty, Butter Brioche, Tomato, Cheddar Cheese Sauce, Sunny Side Up Eggs, Fries
I think half the table ordered this. The beef patty was firm yet moist, overflowing with cheese and the fries were awesome
Desserts
Baked Vanilla Sponge, Salted Caramel, Vanilla Icecream
Apple Crumble, Vanilla Icecream
Waffle, Rum Maple Syrup, Fresh Berries
French Toast, Pink Peppercorn Syrup, Vanilla Bean Icecream
Homemade Tiramisu w Chocolate Pearls
Overall, the desserts fared very well. So well that the french toast (x2) was gone in minutes and we persevered to clean off the plates even though we were exploding. My only advice is to not order the waffles cos they are probably the worst out of the lot.
I have to say this place serves pretty decent food and in pretty good portions. I was pretty surprised and impressed actually. For the price you pay, I thought this place is worth a shot. So for those who are looking for a full brunch on a weekend, you know where to go.
