Zui Yu Xuan has been around for some time. Located behind a heritage building, we never seek to give it a try until one day a friend came back from London and was craving for comfort food so I suggested to have some teochew cuisine. And now, it’s becoming our favourite place for business lunch. lol

ZYX is by Jumbo group so you also see some of their retail products on display. The restaurant occupies 2 levels so it’s considerably quite big of a space

They started with some complimentary tea to warm the stomach and also ended with the same tea when you finished your meal

Braised Duck w Beancurd $20 (small)

We had to get braised duck. The meat slices were cut thin and the beancurd was really smooth. I actually really liked the beancurd. It goes nicely with the chilli sauce

Braised Big Intestine $18

The intestine was good too. Chewy and soft, immersed with the fragrant braised sauce

Ngoh Hiang $18

Ngoh Hiang in my opinion was a little normal. They packed a good bunch of filling but that’s about it

Teochew Oyster Omelette $18

The friends really liked the oyster omelette. Nice crispy outer texture and a soft chewy filling with lots of plump and sweet oysters

Chilled Drunken Prawns $28 (small)

I thought the drunken prawns were decent. Prawns itself were succulent and fresh and the sauce has an alluring fragrance to it

Kai Lan w Crispy Dried Sole Fish $24

Had actually wanted to order another veg but it was not available so the staff recommended kai lan. A surprisingly normal vegetable but this kai lan was so fresh and goes exceptionally well with the dried sole fish. It was a good recommendation

Teochew Pomfret Poached Rice with Dried Shrimps

The poached rice is consistently on our list to order cos it is probably one of the better ones we had ever tried. It’s definitely too much for 2 to finish. Even with 3 pax – we were struggling

Broth was light but packed a bunch of flavours and the teochew pomfret was really smooth

But what elevated the poached rice was the sides that came along with it. I suggest you add some to go along. From a simple bowl of poached rice to one that has different texture and flavours to it, this was really quite an addictive bowl so much when we were full, we wanted another bowl of it

Orh Nee Ice cream $6.80

Ended with a very underwhelming orh nee icecream. You can skip this. lol

From one that never caught our eye to a place we kept going back whenever we were asked where we wanna go for lunch, this place does serve some decent and comforting Teochew food. And the companion all liked it so much they said they gonna bring their parents here the next time. I’m glad there’s just another place for us to visit in the CBD
