Kemuri – Rebrand Concept Serving Robatayaki & Kappo Cuisine

Kemuri used to be a yakitori restaurant, reserved for members only. I went once, wasn’t impressed and never gone back. I was pleasantly surprised to know Chef Issey (who used to run Homura by Kai) had gone to Kemuri and now the restaurant has rebranded into a new concept. So you can now enjoy the grilled dishes that Chef Issey is known for and also kappo cuisine served by Chef Yuki

I was early, needed a drink, saw my favourite X-type and went for it. I had so many X-type this birthday month and it’s not even funny – not that I’m complaining. Then my friends fell in love with this sake. lol

Eihire

Just some grilled stingray to go with alcohol. Not the best, but the friend really loved it, so much she ordered a second portion

Iwashi Roll

Was introduced to try some special of the day. Was worried the friends couldn’t take the heavy flavour of iwashi so they made into iwashi roll for me which honestly, was very acceptable to most palate

Chicken Tail

This was so tender, an in-between between meat and fats. The friends told me they never tried chicken tail before. I was appalled. After having a portion of this, they went for a second order. lol

Chicken Heart

Very clean and tender, goes well with the chilli powder

Oden

Oden here is a little sweeter and richer though a very good 解酒汤 if you had drank too much

Hotaru Ika Tempura

The hotaru ika was actually pretty good, and goes well very with the salt

Black Cod

I wanted the Kinki but it was sold out. So we went with the cod cos the friend loves cod. Skin was cooked so crisp and there was a sweetness in the cod fish itself

Chicken Thigh

Somehow, the chicken dry was a little dry so I was a little disappointed

Sous Vide Beef

Had to try the off menu beef which was sous vide beef. This was highlight of the night. It was so amazing

Beef Tongue

The beef tongue had a good crunch texture to it and it was cooked just right

Nodoguro Handroll

Nodoguro lacked a little. It was quite flat in my opinion. I was expecting the sweetness and the umami touch which I normally expect from Nodoguro but somehow it didn’t come through

Sakura Ebi Claypot Rice

I think the sakuri ebi rice lacked a little umami-ness. I get the fragrance of the sakuri ebi, but it wasn’t enough to balance with the rice and it was just rather light on the palate. So I felt like we had to add some chilli powder to the rice for that extra flavour

It was hits and misses, though generally more positive-ness. Food generally was quite decent overall, though service can be a little slow at pockets of time with only 2 service staff for a full house that evening. But it’s definitely one that’s worth hanging out for a drink or two, with some decent grilled dishes and comfort food
