A new Spanish restaurant opened at Amoy street so the friend and I thought of checking it out. Opened by the ex head-chef and GM of Olivia restaurant, I had hopes of what Amor would bring. The restaurant was crowded for a weekday lunch and all tables were soon filled up

I liked that there was enough space between tables without feeling too cramped

We started with a complimentary watermelon appetiser that was drizzled in olive oil which was well, okay I guess

Jamon Iberico Croquettes $14
Creamy Bechamel Sauce w Melting Ham, Coated in Crispy Potato Crust
Cos croquettes seemed to be a must-order and almost every table had this dish. The crust was really good. It reminded me of hashbrown but we thought the filling was a little salty

Gambas Al Ajillo $34
Spanish Garlic Prawns with Potato Foam, Sweet Paprika
Well-cooked prawns, though nothing to shout about

Grilled Octopus ‘A la Plancha’, Potato, Sweet Corn, Sobrasada Sofrito $32
Octopus was a tad salty on its own, but when you eat it together with the potato, the flavours balanced each other out. But if you are not much of a carbs person, the octopus itself might be a little too much to handle

Paella – Mediterranean Seafood $56
Probably the best dish of all. Rice was well-cooked and really flavourful with the seafood. It was delicious

Hazelnut & Almond Lava Cake $18
The hazelnut filing reminded me of salted caramel. We were confused. I thought the coconut ice cream was nice though not necessarily a good pairing together. We also had a complimentary blue cheesecake as birthday dessert which wow, either you like it or don’t
In my opinion, other than the paella, there wasn’t anything else that was really memorable about this place. It was a pity cos I probably had expected more. And given there is no lack of Spanish restaurants in Singapore, I guessed there’s always others to visit
