Paaru – Winter Menu with a Heartwarming Oden

The friend wanted to try Paaru and off we went. They serve a donabe meal for dinner, priced $189 for 2 pax, with option to add on if you have more people in your company. To be honest, I’ve never been to Pearl’s Hill Terrace so exploring that place is like a maze. Managed to find Paaru after a short while and it was surprisingly quite packed

They have 3 different seatings for dinner. Drinks menu is quite limited as they only serve sake. Thankfully we brought our drinks

Chawanmushi

Dang Gui, Chicken & Black Fungus

First course started with a light chawanmushi that was inspired by chicken herbal soup but somehow I find it a little lacking. I felt the taste of dang gui can be slightly heavier. This was rather forgettable

Oden & Udon

Shitake Meatball, Prawn Paste Aburaage, Beef Intercostal, Hanpen, Daikon, Udon

The oden came with an abundance of ingredients which was really delicious. And so was the broth. We really liked the warm broth that was so hearty

We added on the udon, but personally I thought I can do without it

Ssam

Pork Jowl, Winter Vegetables, House Pickles

The pork jowl was good too. It smelled so delicious when it arrived and the aroma made us really hungry. But the meat was definitely better to go along some sides and vegetables as it felt too much on its own if you ate too much of it. I do enjoy the variety of white kimchi, pickled daikon and yuzu kosho that was served

Dessert – Persimmon, White Bean Ice cream, Kanten

And ending it with desserts – a light white bean ice cream, which was not very satisfying. lol

I would come back for the oden and ssam and I think the price point for a 4-course menu is reasonable. But I thought it would be nice if they could have an ala carte menu as well so that diners could have the option to add on more, if they are still hungry. Cos we weren’t feeling satisfied from the meal we went to have more desserts after that. ha
