I was excited to know that Chef Louis Han from Naeum has opened a new place serving a different concept so we went down to try one day. Gu:um focuses on modern Korean grill and.. they have an ala carte option! So for those who prefer ala carte and something more casual, you can give this a try

It’s not a big place so if they are fully packed, it’s definitely not the place for intimate conversations

Seafood Pajeon $30
Scallion Pancake, Grilled Squid
The potion wasn’t big, but it’s definitely filling. You could taste the grilled taste in the squid which was fragrant and had a nice chewy texture to it and the pancakes were done right. Also, it was tasty with the sauce

KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower) $26
Yangnyeom, Tteok, Spam
They could definitely compare to Anju. But what makes them different was the addition of spam. which I thought was a nice touch. It’s really not bad, not bad at all

Black Angus hanging Tender 300g $138
We got the hanging tender, which was a bit too rare for our liking. But that being said, the meat was well cooked. And we liked the salad that came along with it

Seabass $54
I really liked the seabass that was grilled nicely according to their recommended sauce. The fish was fine, sweet and really delicious

Pork Kimchi Stew $26
Kimchi Broth, Pork RIb
The portion wasn’t big but given how full we were, it was enough for us. The broth was tangy, sweet and comforting and I liked the kimchi in it. The pork ribs reminded me of bak kut teh cos of how big it was, though some were more tender than others. Well, I lucked out and had the tender one while the cousin had the less tender so she didn’t quite enjoyed the ribs

Sot Bibimbap $32
Castiron Rice, Seasonal Ingredients

I have to say I was really impressed with the rice. It had the texture of glutinous, yet it was infused with the flavours of the pork and vegetables and you just can’t stop digging into them. The friends were impressed I finished half of mine. lol

Koguma $16
Sweet Potato, Smoked Vanilla Ice cream

Hotteok $18
Burnt Honey Ice cream, Mixed Nuts
Desserts were good and we enjoyed them thoroughly. The friends found the hotteok a little sweet but I thought it was quite nice and went well together. But you can give them both a try
I really enjoyed my meal at Gu:um for its different concept on grilled dishes and I thought the food was generally quite decent. And if you like something different from Naeum, you can definitely head down to see what Chef Louis Han can offer
