Foliage – Hidden Gem Serving Japanese Fusion Nasi Lemak at Onze Tanjong Pagar

The friend asked me to join her for dinner at Foliage which was so unknown that when I googled, nothing much came up. Located at Onze at Tanjong Pagar, the location was one I rarely ventured into either. So when I entered the restaurant, I told the friend – this is a very interesting place. lol

This place is only by reservations, serving weekday lunch, dinner and Sunday Brunch. We went for dinner priced $188+ per pax serving 9 items

The restaurant doesn’t seat much people so one could also book the entire place if you are coming with a big group I guess

Drunken Miyagi Scallops

First course, soup

We really liked the flavours of the soup. The sweetness of the scallop was so strong that you would easily help yourself to another portion of it. The cook on the scallop was done just right too

Shiroebi “Nasi Ulam”, Salted Fish & Coconut

Their take on Nasi Ulam, I liked the sweetness of the shiroebi and the fragrance of the coconut leaves which somehow reminded me of laksa, balanced by a touch of saltness from the salted fish. What really came through was the smell of the kaffir lime which was so inviting

Buri & Nasu “Ikan Assam Pedas”

The more drinkable form of Assam, with a nice balance of sourness and sweetness. I enjoyed the freshness of the yellowtail though the spiciness of the dish hits you after a little while

Chilli Crab, Oita Egg, Butter Rolls

Chilli crab nonya-style. The use of the flower crab was really generous. You could taste the sweetness of the crab amidst the explosion of flavours with the egg cooked in light butter

Jamon Iberico de Belotta Mee Sua Tng

Probably one of my favourite dish thus far. Stock cooked with kampung chicken, the meesua absorbed all the goodness, sweetness of the chicken and overall balanced with a touch of salty ham. It was so delicious

Dangui Roasted Duck & Dumplings

Served with sides of breast meat and also duck meat chopped and made into dumplings, it had the taste of dangui in it

Nasi Lemak, Fried Tumeric Sea Perch

Refillable

Served using Seaperch from New Zealand, it was so delicious I asked for another portion. The friend was so shocked. The rice was cooked using a combination of Thai and Indonesia coconut which was really fragrant and I loved the side of the crispy anchovies

Lychee & Calamansi Ice Jelly

Palate Cleanser. We were so full by then

Yamanashi Peach & Raita Tart

The peach was really sweet but I didn’t quite like the whole combination with the tart

Jagung Kueh Kosui

I thought the kueh kosui was much better. The fragrance of the corn hit the spot and the kueh was soft and chewy. It was a good end to the meal

It’s definitely a place worth returning and I look forward to what local dishes they could interpret on their own. For those interested, you could check out their website here
