boCHINche – Trying Argentinian Cuisine for The First Time

It’s our goal to try every restaurant in Telok Ayer area. No, I’m kidding. Though working nearby makes a good excuse to venture the area. We have never tried Argentinian cuisine before, nor do we know what to expect so we just went with an open mind. The restaurant was very packed at lunch, full-house in fact. We were surprised. The restaurant had both ala-carte and set menu for lunch and we ordered a little from both

Grilled Pulpo, Potato Foam, Guindilla Pepper, Cancha Corn & Black Winter Truffle $36

From the ala-carte menu, this dish caught my eye so we decided to give it a try and I was glad we did. The grilled octopus was really tender with a nice charred taste and the potato foam was smooth and light. It was a really good combination to have them together

We also had a 2-course (x2) menu $34 which we picked starter + main and main + desserts

Roasted Celeriac & Carrot Soup, Housemade Duck Ham & Croutons

We thought the soup sounded the most promising and thankfully we had the soup. I thought it was quite a hearty and comforting broth which was sweet and balanced. Though by the time I finished my octopus and soup, I was already full. HA

Argentinian Rib-eye, Chips, Salad & Chimichurri

The ribs hmm was underwhelming. I thought the chimichurri sauce was appetising and it didn’t take away the limelight from the beef. The wedges were excellent but the beef was disappointing in my opinion. I had mine in medium-rare and it was a little too rare for me. The friend had hers in medium and it was a little too tough for her. Well, I would definitely skip this the next time

Vanilla Creme Caramel, Pineapple & Granola

The friend found it too sweet. I found it was nothing outstanding. lol

If I were to conclude in one sentence, I think the ala-carte did better than the set menu. But given how popular this place was, I thought there should be something or certain food that draw people back here, which we had yet to discover. Though I pretty much won’t see myself returning anytime soon
