Actually have seen this place popping up in a couple of friends’ IG and thought the interior looks pretty grandeur. So when the friend suggested this place for lunch, thought it was a good opportunity to finally dress up and go out. HA. Located at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, it is towards the foodcourt end but don’t miss the theatre-like entrance. And of course when you stepped through the Tori Gates, that’s when you really miss Japan
So pretty right?
Love the high ceilings and the slightly darkened atmosphere for the romantic feel
Details
We took one 2-course lunch set ($39++) and a 3-course lunch set ($49++) cos the only difference is the dessert and by looks of the menu, it wasn’t anything exciting
Crispy Chicken
Flat Rice, Truffle Salt, Tomato Ponzu
Starter in our lunch set, the crispy chicken was crisp but yet not too dry. It’s like eating a well-executed piece of chicken karaage but slightly more fancy
Salmon Tataki
Apple Salad, Ponzu, Arugula Salad
Slightly cooked at the edges, drizzled in an appetising ponzu sauce. It’s a very normal salmon takaki dish
A5 Wagyu Beef Tenderloin 120g (Add $130++)
Rainbow Carrots, Red Wine Sauce
Probably the one that stood out the most, the wagyu beef was tender with a melt-in-your-mouth kind texture. But then again, for additional top up, it better be good lah
Assorted 12 pcs sushi
Spicy Tuna Maki, Spicy Yellowtail Maki, California Maki, Tuna, Salmon & Yellowtail Sushi
The maki fare better than the nigiri. I guess the slightly spicy flavour makes the whole maki more interesting so much that the nigiri sushi was somewhat outshone
Momoiro $22
Honjozo, Yuzu Shu, Lychee & Raspberry Puree
They have good sake cocktails. Wasn’t that keen in ordering a whole bottle of sake cos by looks of the prices, it ain’t that cheap. In the end we did a carafe and ended the meal with some cocktails instead
Bonsai
Molten Dark Chocolate, Crunchy Praline
Probably the most ordered dessert and the most instagrammable one. Everything was edible, including the pot. Felt the sponge was a little dry and the chocolate a little too sweet
The mochi ice cream was part of the complimentary desserts in the 2-course lunch set
Honestly, was the food good? Well, it’s not inedible. Was it Japanese-standard good? No, it’s not. I felt like this was more American-style Japanese like they use simple ingredients and make it more fancy so that you feel like what you paying seems to be more worth it. But in actual fact, if you do the additional top-up and all, the whole bill ain’t that cheap either. But that being said, it’s a pretty place and sometimes, well you just wanna check out a pretty place. This is definitely one where you can take lots of photos, dress up and have some fancy cocktails there. And judging from the pretty-full reservation list, I think that’s what people are doing
