South Union Park – Back with A New & Revamped Menu

South Union Park is back after being on hiatus for a few months. Have always heard good reviews about this place but given it’s a little out of the way, it took me quite awhile before I finally make it down one day. Parking might be a challenge during peak hours given its location in a residential area and space outside the bistro is limited. But despite that, it doesn’t deter from crowds filling in the space as the tables get snapped up quite fast in the amount of time we were there

White Coffee $5.50

The coffee was quite decent but I felt like the portion is a little small. Perhaps they can have an option for a bigger size as well

Iced Chocolate

There were so many people ordering this I decided to give it a try after we were done with our meal. Well, it was underwhelming and a little over rated. Or perhaps it was a little too milky for my liking

Truffle Konbu Fries $15

Truffle Oil, Parmesan, Konbu Flakes, Truffle Aioli

Quite a decent plate of truffle fries

Mushroom Ragout $14

Organic Farm Egg, Truffle Oil, In-House Toasted Brioche

The ragout was quite nicely done. I enjoyed the brioche so much I wanted to order extra portions. I like how the brioche goes well with the runny yolk and mushroom bits so when you eat them together you can taste the difference in texture

Chicken Confit $24

Millet & Barley Grits, Grilled Asparagus, Balsamic Reduction, Almonds

Last savoury dish we had was their take on chicken confit. The portion was huge and we had difficulty finishing it. Otherwise I thought it was a little too oily. I like how they pair it with the millet and barley grits though it would be nice if we could have a variation of flavours. On a whole, it felt pretty flat as a dish

Strawberries & Lemon $15

Strawberry Mousse, Sponge, Butterscotch Bread, Lemon Curd, Meringue, Fresh Berries

And of course ending with something sweet. We were deciding between this and their special of the day and we asked the waitress which dish is more photogenic. lol and so you got your answer. I thought the dessert was decent though honestly, nothing memorable

Overall I think they served some great food. They don’t have an extensive menu though they probably had more varieties than before. And I like how most of the dishes are priced reasonably. So if you don’t mind it’s a little out of the way, you can give this place a try someday
