Empress, by the Prive Group is located at the Asian Civilisation Museum. The outdoor seating area overlooks the river which is a nice spot to chill after work (and of course minus the sun). The whole interior is very pretty, it’s like classy in its own way. Serving traditional Chinese cuisine in a modern twist, we were quite curious to what Empress can offer. And unfortunately it’s also the day my camera decided to die on me forever
These prawn crackers were very good appetiser to start. It reminds me of what grandmas use to make for their kids to eat
Baked Shanghai Soup Dumplings $8.80
Which essentially just means XLB. Quite good I would say. The skin has a nice charred and baked taste, yet the texture feels just right
Chilli Crab Mantou Buns $7.80
A nice touch to the mantous we usually have for chilli crabs. It really taste just like it
Crispy Cod “Bi Feng Tang” Style with Caramelised Shallots, Chilli $14
It has a nice crisp texture with the caramelised shallots adding a nice touch to it. I would like it with just a bit more chilli cos I couldn’t really taste the spice in it
Teapot Soup $14
Supreme Broth with Pumpkin, Seafood Dumpling, Crispy Spring Roll
The teapot soup literally came in a teapot. The taste of pumpkin was really subtle so for those who are not really fans of pumpkin, you don’t have to worry. The soup was really good, and you couldn’t help wanting for more
Hokkaido Scallop & Prawn Mapo Tofu $24
I honestly did quite enjoy the mapo tofu, to the extent I think I finished half of it. HA
Triple Roast Platter $26
EMPRESS Char Siew, Crackling Roast Pork, EMPRESS Sticky & Sweet Pork Ribs
Probably the most disappointing dish of all. The roast pork was a little too oily, the char siu was a little too fatty and the ribs were a little too sweet and there were not much meat to chew on
Peanut-Coated Black Sesame Mochi Balls $14
Sesame Sponge, Black Sesame Icecream
Pandan Creme Brûlée $12
Peanut Ash, Waffle Biscuit, Gula Melaka Sauce
Well, on the desserts, I wasn’t that impressed. I thought their savouries were better. You can probably skip the desserts
Overall we thought the food here was pretty decent. Empress also offers Dim Sum and Lunch, which is worth going back to try I reckon
