I know it’s difficult to find a place that rivals Hai Di Lao’s standard so introducing a relatively new hotpot place at Clarke Quay Central. Upin Hot Pot might be less heard of, and less fanciful but this place does some pretty decent hotpot. And the most important factor is they allow reservations after 6pm (whoo!) and I still get to enjoy my favourite tomato soup base (double whoo!). For the soup bases, you get to choose up to maximum of 3 selections and we had the mala, tomato and pork bone. Selection of the dishes is pretty decent and prices definitely seem more affordable
All the beef and pork, which we lost count ordering
I thought the tomato soup here is a little sweeter but it does get nicer after awhile
Array of condiments to choose from, chargeable at $3 per pax
Prime Beef $15
Black Pork $10
Mini Sausages $6
I was glad they used the same brand as HDL’s. HA
And among other dishes
Ingredients here are pretty fresh too, so quality is assured
Well, midway through the meal we had entertainment in the form of this. Not sure it’s meant to frighten or entertain
I do think they can pretty much rival HDL. I love HDL, it will still be my favourite hotpot place and HDL wins in terms of service and novelty. Upin’s service is slower and it’s harder to get their attention. I felt like it’s more of a manpower issue. But that aside, the soup base and ingredients are pretty decent and if you hate the wait, this place will probably work well for you
