The colleague brought me to Sandaime Bunji for lunch saying it’s one of her favourite spots for Japanese food, and then I realise it was also the same place another colleague wanted to bring me. We were there for early lunch but were surprised many seats were already reserved. I like the simple Japanese set-up of the place and a glance at their menu got me decided what was for lunch – their famous Wagyu Roast Beef rice bowl!
Unkai Sashimi $29.90
The colleague got the sashimi which was on promotion. Featuring 6 kind of different sashimi, the cuts were thick and generous but I felt like the sashimi was generally just okay
Wagyu Round Roast Beef Set $19.90
The set comes with oxtail soup, salad & tofu but cos I was so hungry, I topped up $8 for the SP set
Which comes with chawanmushi, statsumaage, salmon sashimi & dessert
I think the beef bowl deserved a mention on its own. Even though the colour looks seemingly red, but they were not too chewy. Thin, tender and flavourful, they bowl was drenched in enough sauce so as to mask the taste of the strong beef. The portion was enormous but cos I didn’t want to waste them, I finish them all. lol. The only suggestion I would have is for the egg to have a lava yolk instead. Then it will be perfect
As lunch goes by and crowd fills the place, we notice lots of Japanese patrons. Most ordered their rice bowls which I thought perhaps I should give them a try next time. Sandaime Bunji serves both lunch and dinner and if you would like the meal to be more affordable, prices at lunch are definitely more reasonable. I think it’s a place I will be back
