Mellower Coffee might be a little less heard of in Singapore but this popular coffee chain from Shanghai has opened its second branch in Bugis recently, after its first branch in Central Business District. Both outlets are spacious and roomy with a full view of its coffee bar and a retail space for its coffee products. The Bugis outlet is located right next to Bugis+ with a second floor seating available

You can smell the various coffee beans specially flown in from Shanghai

Flat White $5.40

Their coffee is smooth but a little light on taste, feels more milky overall. Perhaps they need to create a blend that is more heavy in body

Sweet Little Rain $9.80

Their signature creation is only available at Bugis. I went to the Robinson outlet only to be told they do not have the machine to make this drink

They give you a big white fluffy cotton candy which you will turn it over the coffee for it to drip into. I actually rejected their first cotton candy cos it was too long and I was afraid the whole thing might just topple. They must be cursing me, oops

Honestly, this novelty thing – once is enough. Initially I kept adjusting the cotton candy cos the steam from the coffee kept blowing sideways. Then it gets a little messy cos the cotton candy drips everywhere and it makes everything else super sticky. Just remember to bring a packet of wet tissue with you if you are ordering this. Third, you need lots of patience for this drink cos it drips really sloooowly. That aside, the Americano has hints of sour notes which I don’t really enjoy and I don’t really get the sweet aftertaste of the cotton candy

Galaxy Chocolate Rainbow $7.50

But this rainbow cake is a winner. So thick, chocolatey and deliciously good

Chicken Pie $5.80

The crust was crisp, buttery and nice but there wasn’t much filling in it

The location at Bugis is a good choice since there are lesser competitors around. It makes a good place to chill due to its quietness and roominess. But I probably have lesser incentive to visit the CBD outlet since there are other coffee places around which I prefer. Still, this place is still worth checking out for its other novelty drinks as well
