The friend wanted something healthy, so she suggested Sumiya at Orchard Central that serves delicious lunch sets. I happily agreed since this can add on to my chirashi hunt. Sumiya is located at the highest floor of Orchard Central and the interior somewhat reminds me of underground/yazuki-style izakaya
The place accepts reservation though we were pretty lucky there wasn’t much crowd in our area
Ice Green Tea $1.50 (with every set ordered)
A much needed drink to the super uber hot weather. Seriously, the weather these days is oh-my-god
Nama Hon Maguro Mixed Don $30.80
I went for the Nama Hon Maguro set cos it’s only limited to 8 servings per day and no-preorder allowed! And since it’s limited, it must be good! haha okay, stupid mentality
The set comes with mixed salad, miso soup, chawanmushi, stew and mochi of the day
This Maguro don was amazing. They use various cuts of the bluefin tuna to let you appreciate the full flavours of the Maguro. The toro was fatty and somewhat melts in your mouth and the fish was just fresh and sweet
Mixed Bara Kaisen Don $18.80
The Bara Kaisen don was equally delicious. The choice of tuna, swordfish and salmon was a good mix of fresh cuts, marinated lightly with soya sauce and the avocado gave a creamy and sweet finish to the seafood
Mochi of the day
The mochi was soft, chewy and melts in your mouth. The matcha filling wasn’t overly sweet and blends with the mochi skin very well. I can have another piece of this, no doubt
I was pretty impressed by what Sumiya offered. Though the Maguro don was considerably more expensive, I enjoyed every piece of fish on the rice and I can easily recommend their chirashi if you are in the area. I heard their dinner can be quite expensive, so come for lunch instead. You will leave with a full and happy stomach, satisfied with the freshness of seafood here
