I really like Kappou cuisine but there are actually not many in Singapore that served decent ones. It was my first time visiting Tomidou and we were surprised why the name is as such since they used to run Kappou Kaji at Claymore before they moved here. Kaji-san said the previous owner lost their Google password and couldn’t amend the name and hence, it is still Tomidou. lol

It was quite crowded for lunch but I thought it was a little understaffed. Still, lunch service still ran quite smoothly with Kaji-san attending to most things personally

We had the 6-course lunch menu at $180++, celebrating the friend’s birthday as well

Amaebi, Uni Yuba
Topped with house-made jelly, this was really good. The uni, yuba and jelly all went very well together, complementing each other with a balanced sweeetness

Shirako, Kabura
Shirako marinated with kombu then deep-fried to give it a crisp outer layer. For those who don’t enjoy shirako, you can really give this a try. The crispy outerlayer with a melt-in-the-mouth shirako was really good, layered with turnip and dashi sauce that gave it a sweet, sticky, earthy texture

Aji, Chutoro, Otoro
The sashimi was pretty decent overall

Fried Tachiou, Kyoto Yam
The fish was good, the yam was even better. I thought the miso complemented the yam really well
Donabe w Kamasu

Served with Miso soup cooked with Amaebi
Very good donabe that was fragrant, cooked well with nicely grilled fish. It was so tasty we had 2 portions of the rice and we ended up feeling very full

House-made Daifuku
Even though it didn’t seem like there were many items for this course, but we ended up feeling really full. I thought the standard was pretty decent and we had a good time there. It’s definitely one I don’t mind going back if I want to have some Kappou cuisine. Kaji-san is moving to a new location next Feb so do look out for their new home
