Chef’s Tavern – Casual European-Japanese Concept by Chef Stephan

If you have not heard of Chef’s Tavern, it’s the brand new casual European-Japanese concept by Chef Stephan and his team. Taking over the space that was once occupied by Binomio, you can now try some of Chef Stephan’s creations in a more casual-like setting. The restaurant wasn’t exactly crowded but it did have a fair share of customers

Spicy Tuna Tartare $18

Ginger Soy Dressing, Avocado, Tempura Shiso

I really liked this tuna tartare. It was fresh, appetising and different but maybe cos it was the ginger soy dressing, it somewhat reminded me of steamed fish. The creaminess of the avocado also went well with the tartare, topped it off with the crunchiness of the shiso leaf

Burrata $18

Kumato Tomatoes, Wasabi Oil, Lotus Root Chips, Mizuna

The burrata also surprises. You get the familiar burrata flavour but with the addition of the wasabi, you get a slight kick out of it

Smoked Trout Toasts $15 (2 pcs)

Whipped Ricotta, Capers, Lemon Zest, Trout Roe

We concluded the trout toast tasted rather normal. lol. That’s about it

Prosciutto San Daniele Ham 50g $14

And so were the ham. But if you would like something to pair along with wine, the ham does make a good complement

French Fries $8

Seemingly simple but so addictive

Hispi Cabbage $22

Miso Glaze, Kombu Beurre Blanc, Parsley Oil

The cabbage had a pack of flavour to it. You could taste the slight burnt taste yet savoury with the miso and kombu

Prawn & Lobster Bisque Ramen $24

Argentinian Prawns, Ajitsuke Egg, Chilli, Spring Onion

We thought the bisque could be a little stronger in terms of depth. The lobster bisque was there but somewhat not there. So it tasted rather average to us though I have to say this was very filling

Monkfish $32

Sauce Vierge, Capers, Piquillo Pepper, Sansho Pepper, Chicken Jus

I enjoyed the monkfish. I thought it was cooked quite nicely and the vegetables went well together. Overall I thought this dish had different layers of flavour and texture to it which was delicious

If I were to pinpoint something, the lighting wasn’t conducive enough for nicer photos and there was just this irritating housefly that was buzzing around the dishes. It felt like I was dining at a coffeeshop rather than a proper restaurant. Else we thought the dishes here was pretty decent and it makes a good place for friends to gather a good night’s out
