Appetite – Casual Kitchen by Team Nouri

Had dinner with my friends at Appetite recently to celebrate the friend’s birthday. Appetite is the casual restaurant owned by Chef Ivan Brehm who also owns Nouri so you get to try ala carte menu at Appetite instead

The U-shaped sitting area occupied most of the space but you can watch the chefs at work with an open kitchen concept

Rye Sourdough w Unpasturized La Paquette Butter $7

Served with butter with salt from Bali and a side of cheese, I thought the bread wasn’t very impressionable but the Ricotta-like cheese was smooth and pretty nice

The ham on the tabletop caught my eye and so we decided to get a small serving to try as appetiser. The ham was really quite good and wasn’t too salty and it was really easy to eat on its own

Hokkaido Corn Custard & Bafun Uni $32

Supposedly their signature dish and has always been on the menu since Day 1. Oh, this was really nice. Served as cold corn custard, it has multiple layers and flavours in it. You could taste the fragrance of the curry, sweetness of the uni and crunchiness of the corn bits. It was really quite good

Squid Tempura, Kanzuri Fermented Chilli Mayo $16

Was supposed to be turbot cheek tempura but they ran out of it so they had it replaced with squid instead. This was a rather unexpected dish and a little salty overall. Lets just say this dish was pretty forgettable and I didn’t think it was executed well either

Tortilla de Camarones w Amaebi $26

I liked the tortilla. This was crispy, fragrant and you could taste the fried shrimps. But probably one is enough cos it was a little oily towards the end and could be a little overwhelming

Kanpachi Crudo, Aromatic Pickles, Citrus Oil, Trout Roe $30

A beautiful and delicious dish. You can taste the sweetness of the kanpachi but the acidity of the sauce made it refreshing and appetising

Orechiette, Cuttlefish Ragu, Fennel, Pangrattato $36

This was a really interesting dish. The flavours weren’t what we expected. Generally, a touch salty but tbh, I really can’t tell what I’m eating

A5 Wagyu Yamaguchi Wagyu, Black Pepper & Fig Jam $98/100g

Thankfully the beef made up for it. This was very nicely cooked and there was a slight caramelised taste to it. I thought the fig jam was really delicious and it goes really well with the nicely done beef

So after dinner, we were brought to level 3 lounge area for desserts and more drinks. I think it was a pretty nice area to chill but the music was too loud. So it wasn’t ideal for conversations either

Icecream Sandwich – Mango, Saffron & White Chocolate $18

This was strange in all ways. I had 2 bites of it and decided to give up. The friend didn’t finish her either. The staff asked for our feedback when he cleared the dishes and I told him it wasn’t to our liking cos the flavours were a little intense and it didn’t seem to go very well together. The taste of saffron was too strong and overwhelming and there was more sourness than sweetness in this dessert. I was expecting service recovery after he sought our feedback but there was none at all. So I wasn’t very impressed

Appetite has both omakase and ala carte menu but for those who prefer ala carte menu for fine-dining dishes, I thought Appetite could be one of the considerations. Food is generally not bad here but music is abit too loud for conversations which I didn’t really like it. Though, I felt service could be improved. Else you could give this place a try if you are looking for somewhere in the area
