The House Chungdam – Contemporary Korean Restaurant on Duxton Road

The friend and I decided to have lunch at this Korean restaurant that was relatively new. The House Chungdam is different from your usual Korean restaurants and gives you a feel of modern Hanok when you stepped in. With bright and spacious interiors, you will be welcomed by a bar in sight before being led inwards to more tables

It wasn’t very crowded for lunch. Not sure if it’s cos it’s the holiday seasons

We went for the BBQ which came with a variety of sides

I thought the kimchi could be a little spicier but it has a nice balance of acidity to it

Boneless Short Ribs $72

Awesome is when someone cooks the beef for you

I like the beef has a nice charcoal grill taste to it but I didn’t quite like the texture. There were some parts which I found a little too chewy. After eating this, it made me realise why I didn’t like KBBQ. lol

Mini Noodles (Cold) $9

We went for the mini version of the noodles that came in a huge bowl. We were shocked when it arrived but to our affirmation, it was indeed the mini version. The noodles had a nice chewy texture and with the broth, it was indeed a refreshing bowl of cold noodles

Chicken-Green Onions Jeon $24

We ordered the Jeon thinking it would be pancake, but somehow this just tasted like fried chicken. We gave it a second bite. It still tasted like fried chicken. lol. So if you like some fried chicken in your meal, this is a good option

Soy Bean JJigae $19

The jjigae had a generous portion of beef in it and I preferred this version of beef. The meat was tender and breaks apart easily. But I found the stew abit lacking. Maybe we should have gone for the red pepper paste instead

Personally, the interior and service was great. And I think if you want an alternative to business lunch where you wanna impress someone with a nicer environment, this is a good option. However, I definitely had better Korean cuisine elsewhere and this by far, was so-so. It’s not bad, but it didn’t left much impression on me either. I guess if you wanna pop by for a drink after work and preferred somewhere quiet, this could still be one to consider
