Moss Cross Tokyo – Surprising Box of 9 to Start your Meal

The friend wanted to check out Moss Cross Tokyo, and cos we have seen it advertised so much, we decided to give it a try. Located at Capri by Fraser, the place was empty and quite literally till when we were done with lunch. I joked that I had booked the entire place for the friend’s birthday

I say the menu here is quite fusion-ised. Though they had mainly used Japanese ingredients but their sauces and techniques were quite Westernised

And this is our lunch menu for the day! We went for the 5-course priced at $128++

This box of surprise is what that brought us here

Trying various appetisers that consists of different ingredients and condiments

Tomato | Raspberry

Amberjack | Herb Dressing

Tuna | Dukkah

Duck | Fig | Sesame Dressing

Yellow Carrot Mousse | Tomato Consommé

Corn Jelly | Caviar

Shrimp | Papaya

Vegetable Rice Ball

Wagyu | Nori Seaweed | Avocado

To be honest, I wasn’t very impressed by most of the dishes. They all felt pretty normal to me. But A for presentation

Hokkaido Scallop Spring Roll | Mushroom Sauce

I thought the Hokkaido scallop roll was decent. A nice crisp layer that goes well with the mushroom sauce

Pink Snapper from Ehime | Duglere Sauce

I went with the fish while the friend went for the beef. Well, I was glad my fish tasted better

Tokachi Herb Beef from Hokkaido | Tomato Worcester Sauce

It wasn’t that the flavours were not good enough but the execution of the beef was sub par. We had asked for medium, but this seemed a little more medium-rare and the middle was so rare it was just red. The friend joked and asked if she could just send it back to the kitchen

Somen Noodle from Okinawa | Mozuku Seaweed

Well, thankfully we had another noodle dish to conclude our meal. We were surprised by the presentation of the somen cos yellow somen wasn’t one we had seen often. But still, I thought the somen with the seaweed tasted decent enough to call this a meal on its own

Nougat Grasse

Moving on to desserts, I was glad I went for the nougat though I also didn’t finish much of it

Daikon Tiramisu

And daikon with tiramisu is just strange. It was so strange I thought the flavours were just clashing. This creativity is just on another level

In all, I thought the meal wasn’t quite worth the money. They were trying to be creative, but compromised on the basics of flavours, I rather they just deliver a decent good meal without trying too hard and make things complicated
