When we first found out the famous chain serving Korean chicken stew was coming to Singapore, I was excited to give it a try cos I really love the spicy chicken stew I had in Seoul. And so I went with the colleagues who were also looking forward to their opening. They made a reservation ahead and we headed down on a rainy evening, which was perfect for a stew in my opinion

The place was packed but it wasn’t exactly very crowded when we reached and we made our order in no time

Dakdoritang S $36.90
Ramyeon $4
Enoki Mushroom $5
Quail Egg $5

It kinda reminded me of hotpot where you can add extras to the stew which came with chicken and potato (and lots of garlic). You were supposed to scoop a spoonful of garlic into your dipping sauce and mix it. And with the remaining garlic in the pot, you just mix everything and eat it together

First thought? It definitely looked good but it tasted very different from the one I had in Seoul. I’m not sure if this chain supposed to taste like this but the one I had in Seoul was nowhere like this. The broth aside, the chicken wasn’t exactly tender nor flavourful and the potatoes were okay I guess. The friends’ comments – I think the nicest thing in this pot is the ramyeon. Lol. Legit, the ramyeon was delicious as it soaked up the taste of garlic. So when you eat it together, it was a little spicy and flavourful

Fried Rice $8
We had the fried rice as well which you could only order with the doritang. The staff would come and cook it for you. The smell was inviting as you could taste the air of seaweed and sesame. Glad it tasted good too, so much we finished all the rice despite being very full. And the friend said, the rice was the nicest thing we had tonight. Lol

Cheese Gyeranjjim $12.90
We had the steamed egg with cheese which was not bad. The cheese was cooked with the egg so as you dip into each bite, you had the chewy cheese texture

Chicken Gizzard $15.90
The batter was good but we felt it was a little overdone. It wasn’t exactly enjoyable. Definitely wouldn’t order this again
Hotteok $9.90
The friend wanted the hotteok for desserts cos of good memories she had of them. One bite of it and she went – Wah. This tasted exactly like the one I bought from K-mart. I think they just microwaved them up. Lol. I guess good memories should always just stay as memories, or maybe go back to Korea to find them again

As we were dining, there was a family next to us who bumped into their neighbour that was leaving the restaurant. The neighbour happily asked them how’s the food, and there was a moment of awkward silence. We just laughed. I guessed perhaps the taste wasn’t to locals’ tastebuds cos in all honesty, there were a lot of Koreans there. So maybe the stew really tasted as it was and Koreans like it. I could only say, it’s good to give this a try. But once is enough
