It was my first meal back after a very long trip and I just wanted something comforting. So comfort food equals Chinese cuisine and I believed my folks would like it too. We went to check out Yue Bai cos I walked past a couple of times but never got inside to try it. The place was empty on a weekday night except for us and the table next to us

We had undivided attention

Peking Roast Duck $25 (half)
I was eyeing the duck when I first saw the menu and decided to go for the half portion so we could try more of other dishes

I thought the duck was not bad. Granted the slicing wasn’t sliced to perfection but the steamed homemade crepes were so thin they were amazing. It was actually quite yummy

Royal Buddha Jumps Over The Wall $138/portion
I pre-ordered this cos it was the dad’s birthday. Well, it was good. I mean, it better be. lol. The broth was filled with goodness and you could savour it bit by bit. The huge scallop was delicious and so was the rest of the ingredients in it. Though I would love to try the selection of other soup the next time I return

Bamboo Clam steamed with Pineapple Sauce Seasonal Price
I was intrigued by the pineapple sauce so I decided to give it a try. It was really delicious. The bamboo clams were fresh and the pineapple sauce reminded me of Assam sauce, just less spicy version. This was really good

Braised Baby Spinach, Yellow Millet, Bamboo Pith $24
And some vegetables to go along. Pretty decent as well

Braised Hokkien Vermicelli w Shredded Duck
We had the vermicelli for our second dish from the duck and this was the best choice I felt. The vermicelli was filled with wok-hey and the duck was seasoned just right. The crisp seaweed was just icing on the cake. I would love to have this again

Crispy Fried Black Sesame Mochi, Osmanthus-infused Sugar $12
Moving on to desserts. The mochi was so good. You need to give this a try

Double Boiled Pineapple, White Fungus, Almond $12
This dessert, I felt, would work well with old folks. lol. It had the slight sourness from the pineapple yet the dessert had sweetness from the white fungus and almond. It was pretty balanced and refreshing
Yue Bai did surprise me in many ways. When I left the place, I felt like I need to come back here again. I can’t wait to try their other dishes they have on their menu
