If you have been to The Basement @ Hong Leong, you will find a newly furbished basement with new faces of different F&B establishments. Gone are Yong Tau Foo and Mee Siam but instead, you can find an array of eateries to cater to the CBD crowd. I would think the standout among all is this restaurant located at the corner named Tokidon, the same team that brought you Kabuke at Telok Ayer street. To be honest, I wasn’t very impressed by Kabuke but nevertheless I was still gamed to give Tokidon a try. Looking at the menu, it certainly looks like there were more options to choose from and you could switch out of rice to soba noodles instead. It was also more budget friendly with bowls priced accordingly to different grades of beef

Truffle Wagyu Soba + Ikura Shoyuzuke $27.90
Wagyu Striploin, Onsen Egg, Cured Kelp, House Blend Truffle Soy
I like that the soba noodles were well-cooked and flavourful such that you can eat it on its own even if you have finished the proteins. I was surprised by the bigger than expected portion of beef and on top of it, the beef was nicely done

Wagyu Sukiyaki Don + Foie Gras $28.90
Sliced Wagyu Short Plate, Onsen Egg, Shimeiji Mushrooms, Sautéed Onions, House Blend Sukiyaki Sauce
The friend had the sukiyaki don with the addition of foie gras which she gave me. Yes, the whole piece. lol. Honestly, I really like foie gras but it was such a big piece I had problem finishing it. Not that it’s a bad feedback but I welcome the generous portion

Salmon Cha Soba + Japanese Omelette $17.90
Teriyaki Glazed, Sahimi-Grade Salmon, Onsen Egg, Ikura
For non-beef fans, there’s choice of salmon soba as well. You can taste the grilled salmon in the noodles which was appetising and delicious. The salmon was nicely done though overall I thought the ikura was a little too salty for my liking. The omelette had nothing to rave about so you can actually skip them

Tori Karaage Skewer w Yuzu Mayo $1.90

Menu
Overall, Tokidon exceeded my expectations. I like that there was choice of customization and variety and honestly, the presentation here also looks better. They are opened for dinner as well so if you are looking for a place to chill after work, here’s another option to consider
