Amò – Casual Italian Restaurant at Hong Kong Street

Amò at Hong Kong street is more of a casual Italian restaurant, the kind of place where you would like wind down after work with pizza and a glass of wine, or perhaps even with some Italian pasta and hearty mains. The Group also has Braci, &Sons, Aura and Osteria Art under their belt so one can expect much from Amò, short for Amore (which means Love). The interior is dimly lit to give a relaxed atmosphere and you will be greeted by the bar section upon entering. Further inside divided by the main dining room, a private space and the alfresco courtyard, the whole ambience feels just right, decorated with grills, mosaic tiles and an open kitchen concept

Crispy Calamari w Sumac and Sundried Tomato Aioli $19

Like the crunch and texture of the crispy calamari, accompanied by a sweet and tangy tomato dip

Burrata w Eggplant Salad, Walnuts and Bottarga $28

The Burrata was splendid. Light and airy, it goes well with the earthy eggplant salad topped with fragrance of the walnuts

Mushroom, Truffle, Mascarpone and Tuscan Pecorino $35

Recommended by the server, this pizza tasted excellent when eaten warm. Love the different kind of mushrooms drizzled in truffle oil and the crispy hollow dough

Veal Ravioli w Porcini Cream and Parmigiano $28

Probably the most disappointing out of the lot, we thought the mushiness of the veal felt strange

DSC00321

Linguine w Clams, Paprika and Cherry Tomatoes $29

Well-cooked pasta, but that’s about it. It was good but pretty forgettable

Spaghetti Chitarra w Boston Lobster and Tarragon $98 (Serves 2)

One of their more popular dishes, this lobster pasta is worth giving a try. The sweetness of the lobster with a sweet and tangy tomato based, we finished the entire plate

Special: Grilled Scampi Prawns

It was decent but nothing worth raving about it

Butter Roasted Spring Chicken w Rosemary Jus and Roman Potatoes $28

My favourite dish of the night. The butter roasted spring chicken was excellent. The fragrance of the chicken skin and the tenderness of the meat worked in every way. And ooh, the potatoes too

Grilled Octopus, Friggitelli Peppers and Calabrian Chili Vinaigrette $35

We did enjoyed the grilled octopus as well. The slightly grilled flavour and the chewy octopus meat was pleasant to savour

Chocolate Taste with Green Tea & Yuzu Meringue $15

I felt the savouries fared much better. You can skip the desserts

I thought the food here at Amò was quite decent. If you are looking for an Italian restaurant that is somewhat more relaxed, this place would fit the bill. The popularity of the place is evident too, given how crowded the restaurant is through the night. The only thing I don’t like is you have to return the tables by 8.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays which makes us stressed looking at the time. You know sometimes, you just want to stay at a place and enjoy the night
