Eneko at One Aldwych – Enjoying Basque Cuisine in London

Eneko London is located at the basement of One Alydwych hotel. Helmed by 3 Michelin-starred Basque chef Eneko Atxa, the London outpost is a more relaxed theatrical setting, yet without compromising the quality of food. The menu here is also different, incorporating hints of Basque tradition into cosmopolitan London. The place was pretty quiet when we visited but it also meant that we have all the attention of the staffs

Warm Bread served with Basil and Sea Salt

Definitely something different and worth trying

Cauliflower in Textures £9

This cauliflower dish was surprising and exploding with flavours. Love how they present cauliflower served 4 ways, you can taste the various textures and each layer was delicious

Suckling Pig Tempura £12

Slow cooked pork shoulder served with a side of bacon sauce. The pork shoulder was moist, soft and you can taste the richness of the pork. It’s quite interesting to call the outer crisp layer tempura cos the Japanese tempura certainly doesn’t look like this. Still, the golden brown texture was crackling when we bite into it

Loch Fyne Seared Salmon Fillet served with Mussels, Asparagus and Peas £19

The mom really loved her fish dish. But I think what went well was the sea of beautiful broth

Slow-cooked Oxtail with Mushroom Emulsion £15

A little too rich for my liking, the oxtail was cooked soft and moist

Braised Pork Cheeks served with Ham Duxelle and Confit Shallots £17

The pork cheeks were wonderful. It was very tender and full of flavours

Tenderstem Broccoli, Almonds £5

It might not look anything spectacular, but it tasted really delicious. And we spent half the time wondering how they make this dish so wonderful

Pineapple Sorbet served with Celery Foam and Sweet Celery Ribbons £8

Since we had a good run from the start, we decided to end with desserts to make it a home run, even though we were really full at that point. And the pineapple sorbet was a good choice. Refreshing, sweet with a little acidity, it made a good dessert to wash down the heaviness of the savouries we had before. Definitely a dessert I will go for again

I didn’t know what to expect before I head down but I’m glad this place exceeded my expectations. It was a pity we didn’t get to try more. An interesting menu served with excitement and tradition, it is worth dropping by if you want something different
