Sang Kee serves a variety of food options in Hong Kong, from congee to beef noodles to fish noodles, and they are all located in the same area in Sheung Wan. This time round we went to their congee shop for breakfast. The shop is tiny and can probably sit 20 pax at most. Yet that doesn’t stop us for a hot bowl of congee. The shop focuses on mainly fish, pork and beef and you can do a selection of two choices if you like variety
Fried Dough HKD8
Fried dough with congee, a must order for congee pairing. Though I have to admit after repeatedly trying so many times in Hong Kong, I just don’t enjoy their version of fried dough. Over fried and over oily, it was just not to my liking. And perhaps cos of miscommunication, our fried dough only came when we finished our congee so to eat them on its own is double argh
Pan Fried Fish Cakes HKD15
Literally pan fried from fresh fish pastes, it had a strong fishy taste with a chewy texture. It’s of those dishes either you like it, or don’t like it
Pork Ball Congee HKD30
We went for a safe option of pork ball congee. The congee was smooth and you literally felt like drinking liquid. I love the pork balls. Freshly made, the huge balls were bouncy with nice chewy texture with no porky taste
It’s definitely an option to consider if you are sick of too much maggi mee and condensed milk bun for breakfast. There’s HKD3 discount per bowl if you dine before 12.30pm and after 2pm. Light on the stomach and a healthier start to the day, who would say no to a hot piping bowl of comforting congee?
