The Assembly Ground occupies the first level of The Cathay in probably what is one of the few remaining tenants left at the once populated shopping mall. We were deciding a place for dinner before catching a movie upstairs so I was glad we could still find some comfort in this rustic cafe. Other than breakfast items, they also serve a small portion of dinner selection so for those who are looking for some alternatives, there are still some options to choose from
The crowd was thin on weekdays and probably could be a good place to do some catching up with friends
Iced Latte with Vanilla Icecream $8
Had an iced latte cos I was so tired and worried I may just fall asleep before the movie starts. The latte was pretty good with a nice aroma and heavy bodied. I had requested for no ice cream but it still came, so oh wells.
Popcorn Chicken with Spicy Mayo $10
Bite sized chicken crisps as a starter to the meal. Taste better with chilli sauce. The spicy mayo was underwhelming
Surf & Turf Burger $18.50
Battered Haddock, Grilled Chicken, Tomato, Lettuce, Sriracha
Really like their surf & turf burger. The chicken was grilled to perfection with the meat succulent and tender. The fish was nicely executed with a creamy cheese sauce
Grilled Miso Pork with Roasted Potatoes & Seasonal Vegetables $22
The pork was rather disappointing. A little tough and under seasoned
There are certainly hits and misses but this place make a good place to chill if you need somewhere quiet or a quick proper dinner before movie upstairs. And with 2 years into their operation, I’m glad this cafe is still around
