The Bao Makers took over the space previously occupied by Windowsill Pies at Jalan Besar and had a total makeover. The beautifully decorated interior was welcoming and you feel like you could just chill here all day long. The place was pretty quiet when we went, it felt like this place needed more publicity
My favourite part of the place
Flat White $5.50
Coffee beans were from Common Man Coffee Roasters with a smooth, medium-bodied and velvety finish and a bitter aftertaste
Cappuccino $5.50
Truffle Fries $8
I feel like truffle fries sell anywhere. It’s like if the friends see truffle fries on the menu, they will definitely order. The truffle fries were a little light on flavour, it felt like something was missing
Salted Egg Shrimp $15 (for 2)
Zichar-style salted egg dish with a twist. Even though the taste is there, I thought it actually gets jelat after awhile
Bao Platter $28
For those who cannot decide
Teriyaki Chicken (left) Bulgogi (right)
I thought the bulgogi was normal and the teriyaki chicken tasted more like crispy chicken without the teriyaki sauce. Maybe I just don’t have much fondness for anything bulgogi
Chilli Crab
The chilli crab was really good. The deep fried bao makes it like you are really eating a chilli crab dish
Classic
I thought the classic was decent with the pork tender and flavourful
Hearty Breakfast $17
The breakfast in honesty wasn’t outstanding in anyway but they do have a variety on a plate
Brunch situation
I think this place has a good concept but they probably need to fine tune some of their dishes. For a place that isn’t the most accessible, I think they could actually use a little bit more effort
