500. The Clan Restaurant

Post #500. It’s quite an accomplishment for myself to have hit the 500 milestone mark in terms of food reviews. Sometimes, maintaining a blog is not easy. You have to upload and edit photos, then upload to photosharing sites so that you have more memory space on wordpress, think about the flow of the entry and most of the times, it really depends on the mood to write. It takes a great deal of motivation to keep this space going. Thank you all who have been supporting my little blog 🙂

Met up with the girls for my birthday at The Clan along Bukit Pasoh road, which was nestled among the shophouses. Our table was located immediately when we entered, which made it seem like we booked the whole place, or rather the whole restaurant has only one table. The girls jokingly asked if we were the only guests for the night

First table in sight

The Clan serves a set menu, with many choices to choose from. Somewhat similar to Dozo, this was an elevated version of it. Service was attentive and even so commendable for they took great lengths to serve us additional serving even though one of our friends didn’t order anything, which I thought was a very sweet gesture of them

Chef Starter

Chawanmushi

Scallops

This was my favourite

Smoked Salmon

Apple Sorbet

Palate cleanser I supposed?

Alaskan King Crab w Seasonal Greens in Homemade Karashi Dressing

Beef Carpaccio w Truffle Teriyaki & Horse Radish Sauce

The beef carpaccio was sliced thinly and it compliments well with the truffle teriyaki sauce, which was a mix of something sweet and earthy, that could bring out the flavours of the beef

Braised Beef Tendon & Brisket w Puff Pastry

Pan Seared Foie Gras w Mustard Seed Bread & Balsamico Reduction

The foie gras was a little too mushy for me but it worked well generally as a whole

Kurobuta Pork Belly Confit w Pork Cracker & Passionfruit Sauce

The pork belly was cooked really well. The meat was tender and contained all the flavours. It’s a dish that stood out even on its own

Herb Crusted Mushroom Escargot

I actually liked this dish though the escargots might be a little dried out

Seafood Soup

It tasted very much like lobster bisque, basked in by the beautiful flavours of the seafood

Crab meat and prawns

Prime Beef Short Ribs on Hoba Leaf w Peppercorn Sauce on Lava Stone

I think by the time the mains arrived, we were already full. This dish was fun cos you get to cook it yourself though it took quite some time, but the result was a flavourful and beautiful short ribs

Duck Confit w Plum Mustard, Truffle Mashed Potato & Seasonal Vegetables

Baked Codfish w Lemon Parmesan Croquette in Watercress Sauce

The fish has all the moist, but also the crispness of the crust. I never understand the pairing with croquette and neither the watercress sauce in this case

Triple Espresso Creme Brûlée

Homemade Cheesecake w Dehydrated Pistacho Sponge

The friends actually liked this quite a bit but I’m not really a fan of this

Chocolate Lava Cake w Homemade Gelato

Sadly the ice cream took more brownie points than the lava cake itself

Trying to spot the lava

Green Tea Panna Cotta w Mixed Berries Compote

Smooth Panna Cotta with a light green tea taste

Dinner was a cozy affair with good company and decent food. I think this place is actually one to consider if you are thinking of celebrating some occasions. The food here might not be the best but I think the service made up for it and in terms of price, it’s actually reasonable comparatively to those high-end establishments
