We visited Sushi Oono for dinner cos the friend went there once and she thought it was quite nice. And well, I’ve heard good things about them so I wanted to give them a try as well. We reached really early, even before the sushiya opened and the friend knocked on their door impatiently. lol

We went for the otsumami sushi menu, priced $330 which consists of appetiser, seasonal selection, nigiri, maki roll, tamago, soup & dessert

Shirako, Yam, Spinach, White Miso
Cos Shirako in season, this was actually quite a nice appetiser. Yam was served very hot and the soup was savoury with hints of yuzu. It was quite balanced and flavourful dish with the melt-in-the-mouth shirako

Female Snow Crab, Vinegar Jelly
Crab was sweet but the vinegar jelly was really sour, so much that it kinda overpowered the whole dish. And I thought the roes could better be prepared. It felt a little too dry and separated in my opinion

Ankimo, Japanese Pear
I liked the ankimo with the smokiness and the Japanese pear was really sweet

Grilled Kuromutsu
The execution was good but I thought the fish could be sweeter. I thought the burdock was really nice though

They serve 2 kinds of ginger, young and old. I preferred the young while the friend went for the old. I guessed you could tell who had the old soul

Tai
I thought the shari was good – the cook, warmth and vinegar but the fish was a little underwhelming

Kawahagi
Hmm, it was a little salty

Akami

Chutoro

Ootoro
I thought it was me. So I secretly asked the friend was the shoyu generally salty or they brush alot on the nigiri? She said – he brushed alot. I thought it was a little disappointing cos all I could taste first was the shoyu and it kinda wasted the tuna

Kohada

Akagai

Ikura

Uni

Kuruma Ebi

Anago
I thought the kuruma and anago was the best in the opinion. The rest of the sushi was memorable in the wrong way. I’m generally someone that could take saltiness well but this was hmm, really on the heavier side

Negitoro Maki

Tamago

Miso Soup

Apparently 2 of my friends who went there had a good experience there and the same friend also mentioned today’s meal was disappointing. So I guessed it was a 50-50 hit rate. But to me, I felt like first impression is the most important. And sad to say, they have not met my expectations
