Salt & Soul – Casual European Dining in CBD

The friend wanted to try Salt & Soul and jio-ed me along for a weekday lunch. It’s located closer to Tanjong Pagar area but still pretty walkable from where we were located. I thought they had a pretty nice space that was spacious and bright. It felt like one where you can do a casual business lunch without your conversations being intruded

Though manpower also seemed pretty tight

We went for the 2-course set lunch priced $17 which we got different selections so we could try more variety

Cauliflower

Poached in Aromatic Stock, Roasted till Tender w Toasted Quinoa

I thought the flavor was good. We liked the char and aroma of it but I find the texture too soft for my liking. I would have preferred if there was a little more crunch to it. I know they mentioned this was roasted till tender – no doubt, it was really, really tender

Prawn Fritto + $1

Deep fried wanton, elevated version. I thought the flavor and execution of the prawn fritto was okay. It wasn’t bad but there was nothing to shout about either

Pommes Frites, Spicy Tomato Mayo $12

Just so I thought we needed another side, fries it shall be! It was a normal, decent plate of fries

Beef Bourguignon +$2.50

Braised Chuck Roll in Red Wine, Pearl Onions, Carrots, Mushrooms, Jus

This was really good. I spied a few tables having this as well. The chuck roll was cooked to tenderness with intense flavor. The friend finished up the mash potato which was soaked up in the sauce that was earthy, aromatic and just appetizing

Aglio Olio

Espelette Chilli, Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The friend said the simplest dish is the hardest to execute so we decided to try their aglio olio. You can sense there was a lot of heart put into cooking this dish. It’s not amazing but one that was actually above average. There was an abundance of aromatic garlic in it and the pasta itself was cooked al dente. So generally, it was pretty okay

That being said, I still recommend the beef. We were really full cos we ordered an extra side of fries which was essentially more carbs. But I would think their 2-course set lunch is pretty reasonable and decent. It’s worth checking it out if you are working in the area or just looking for something casual
