Decided to take a pause and try other sushiya so I decided to give Ishizawa a try. Taking over the place once occupied by Oshino, the interior was pretty much the same. The intimate 8 seater is now helmed by Chef Takahiro Ishizawa that used to head Shinji by Kanesaka

I went for the On menu ($220) that consists of Appetiser, 15 Nigiri, Maki, Soup, Dessert and was excited to see how the meal unfolds

Seasonal Chawanmushi w Corn and Baby Sardines
The egg custard was smooth with the sweetness from the corn and texture from the baby sardines

Hirame
The fish was very chewy and you could taste the shiso in it. Rice temperature was good but I thought the vinegar didn’t really come through

Shima Aji
You can really taste the vinegar in this yet the shari was so strong it kind of overpowered the fish

Hata from Kyushu

Amaebi
I couldn’t really taste the sweetness of the prawn. It was very meh

Sake Friend
Really goes quite well with the sake

Aji
The Aji could be better. It was a slight sweet and slight fishiness. It felt like the sweetness didn’t come through fully so the satisfaction level wasn’t really there

Smoked Sawara
This was very good. You can really taste the smokiness and sweetness of the sawara

Chutoro

Kinmedai
Tasteless. You can taste the yuzu and the rice but the fish really lacked impression

Aori Ika
You can really taste the vinegar in the rice here, slightly too much

Akami
The pack of wasabi was really strong in here but for people who preferred a stronger wasabi in their nigiri, they would probably enjoy it

Kisu

Aomori Uni
Uni was good but I felt the taste of the rice was a little strong for the uni

Bafun Uni
The bafun uni was better, like I felt this combination was a little more cohesive

Otoro
Personally, the otoro was the best. Like the fattiness and sweetness of the fish went well with the sushi rice

Ankimo
The ankimo was pretty decent. It was smooth and creamy

Anago

Negi Toro

Nodogoro
The nodogoro was actually not bad. It was fatty with a slight oiliness to it

And ending with a green tea wafer ice cream
Overall, I was very confused by the meal. As the friend said, it’s neither here nor there. Some of the fish was decent yet some was quite underwhelming. The shari seemed to complement some of the fish, yet too overpowering for some. Also wasabi seemed to be on the heavier side generally. I don’t know what to make of this meal but I guess given they still had their own base of regulars, its probably each to their palate
