Maison Boulud – Beautiful French Classics By Chef Daniel Boulud

Decided to check out the new restaurant by Chef Daniel Boulud since there were lack of options on Sunday on our to-go list. And to our surprise, the restaurant was actually pretty packed. First impressions – the place was tastefully decorated. The restaurant exudes warmth but being elegant at the same time and also, staffs that were ready to give you 100% attention

We decided to start with cocktails and appetisers while waiting for our friend to arrive and chose one of their signatures

Walnut Fashioned 28

Bulleit Rye Whisky, Cognac, Benedictine,
Pineau de Charentes,
Walnut Bitters

Before ordering, the staff told us – this is a very strong drink. The friend replied, no problem – we can hold our liquor. I lol-ed

But that being said, the drink was indeed on the stronger side. Yet you could still taste the layers of flavour in the cocktail. I actually quite liked this

Amuse Bouche

We were told these were amuse bouche and that’s a full stop to the sentence. So we asked – sorry what’s this? And they repeated, amuse bouche. I think you can see the expression on our faces were like -_- Obviously we know that, and obviously that’s not what we were asking

Anyway, these amuse bouche were delicious. The cheese puffs were savoury and crisp and were a satisfying bite to start the meal

Complimentary sourdough. They went really well with the butter

BOEUF | TRUFFE 36
Beef Filet Carpaccio, Black Truffle Dressing, Celery, Arugula & Parmesan

The friend wanted to try the beef carpaccio which was sliced thinly, had a good texture and it paired nicely with the parmesan and black truffle dressing

L’OREILLER | PISTACHE 28
Pâté en Croûte, Pork Ibérico, Foie Gras, Armagnac, Dried Fruits & Nuts

We really wanted get a pâté  and this classic pâté  was done beautifully. We loved the flavour was balanced and dried fruits and nuts added texture to the smooth meat texture. And I thought the small selection of pickles were a nice touch as well

POULET | VADOUVAN 48
Free Range Chicken ‘Rotisserie’, Carrot Confit , Mustard Seed Mushroom Spätzle, Vadouvan Jus

We loved the flavour of the chicken but thought it was a slight touch dry. I found the Mushroom Spätzle quite interesting too, not something that I come across often in a dish

BAR | BLACK PEPPER 58
Chilean Seabass Confit in Olive Oil, Claypot Rice, Sausage, Black Pepper Sauce

The rice was spectacular. This was my favourite dish of the night. Like I would order this dish again to eat the rice. It’s not your usual Asian claypot rice but yet it was fragrant, flavourful and very delicious. The rice could go with anything, the chicken too

Let’s not ignore the seabass. It was cooked well too, and I thought it went well with the olive oil. Not something I would expect in a pairing, but it’s really not bad

Moving on to desserts..

FRAISE | COMBAVA 18
Cameron Highland Chitose Strawberry, Kaffir Lime Mousse, Yuzu Gel

The friend had her eyes set on the most instagrammable dessert. Well it tasted good too. I liked there was different layers in this you can taste actually all the flavours

CHOCOLAT | CAFÉ 18
Grand Cru Dark Chocolate Crémeux, Glenfiddich, Caramel Foam, Coffee Ice Cream

Cos we wanted something chocolatey. It definitely satisfied our cravings. The chocolate was thick but I thought the coffee ice cream was pretty yummy too, and it made the whole dish complete

MADELEINES 12

I had my eyes set on the warm madeleines. This is by far, the nicest madeleines I’ve had. Right texture, crisp, soft inside, the right sweetness and served warm. Amazing

We decided to check out the first level which had another seating area as well

It’s definitely less intimate here

We were satisfied with our meal at Maison Boulud. Classic French fares done beautifully that left an impression on us. Would love to return anytime and this place mades a good choice for date nights, casual catchup or simply for a good meal

Wow ! quite pricey, from what I remember, the restaurant said it was a bistro instead of the fine dining restaurant it was before in old location.

Well. Given its location at MBS, probably tough to be branded as bistro
