One of my Japanese friends introduced this place to me and I wasn’t able to visit them on my last Japan trip in October cos the stomach didn’t have any more space so I made it down this year instead. Thankfully, reservations were more manageable than other sushi restaurants so me and the friend got to visit them for dinner

Spot this light blue curtain hanging outside and you know you are at the right place
There were only 6 people that night so dinner was intimate but also intimidating but thankfully I had a companion this time so at least we get to entertain each other. Since the menu was already fixed and decided, we took a look at the drinks menu instead

I must say the drinks were not cheap

We decided to just have a glass each since we were going for round 2 later
And with that, dinner commenced shortly

Sakura Trout w Caviar
The trout was lovely. You could taste the freshness in it with the fish sweet and fatty and paired along the caviar for a slight saltiness

Chawanmushi
I have never seen chawanmushi like this nor tasted one too

But this chawanmushi was superb. The sweetness and smoothness of the egg with a surprise element at the end (mochi!) and a slight gingery taste to it. It was really delicious

Fried Sawara w Miso
The fish was good on its own. You could taste the fattiness as you bite through the crunch of the batter that was light and done just right. Pairing it with the miso gave a different flavour to it which was delightful as well

Ankimo w Shoyu Vinegar
The texture of the ankimo was excellent. The sauce might be a little salty to some but I thought the whole flavour was pretty good. And I liked it with the wasabi. It was a burst of fireworks in the mouth

Chutoro
When we got the first piece of sushi, we were like – we starting with chutoro? Is our dinner ending soon already? lol
Look at this colour. So beautiful

Zake

Iwashi

Kasugo

Nodoguro w Rice
The sushi were good, until this Nodoguro blew our mind. I can never see Nodoguro the same way

Shirame

Kurama Ebi

Fugu Shirako
And so was this grilled shirako where you break it apart with spoon, mixed with rice and wasabi. It was.. indescribable

Otoro

Saba

Uni
The uni, unfortunately was the most disappointing of the lot. Cos the rest of the pieces were really good. The uni felt flat in comparison

Anago
We started our first piece of sushi with our eyes gleaming. The gleam never stopped. The rice was cooked well, with the right texture and warmth and I liked how balance it was with the fish as you could taste the vinegar from the rice and also the freshness of the fish in one. His grilled pieces were memorable too and it really made me want to have another portion of it

Miso Soup

Tamago
I didn’t quite like the tamago. It really tasted like egg
I’m glad to say, this run of sushi was more successful than the last. And I could see myself going back again even though the chef never interacted with us at all. He was just busy talking to his regular sitting infront of him. Towards the end of the meal, we heard him mentioning Singapore many times and when we were about to leave, he realised we were Singaporeans and he jokingly told us ‘See you soon’ Well, unfortunately I don’t see Tokyo on my travelling list anytime soon. lol
