When the restaurant first opened, people knew little of it and every time when I walked past, the place seemed to be empty. Days later, after it has gone viral on social media for its reasonable prices, the restaurant now sprouts a long snaking queue whenever I chanced across. Casa Vostra, led by Chef Antonio Miscellaneo prides itself as a casual Italian bistro serving restaurant-quality pizza and handmade pasta and it definitely proved to be popular with the young and the old. The friend asked for lunch so we decided to check out Casa Vostra which operates by a no-reservation policy. So have the patient to wait, else, go very early

The restaurant opens at 1130am and I thought I was early at 1120am but to my horror. lol. They led people in 30 minutes time-frame so it doesn’t feel like you have to wait very long. And dining limit is capped at 1 hour so if you have kids who eat very slowly, suggestion is don’t bring them here. Well, we managed to get in at 1155am and by then we already knew what to order

Frittatina Lasagne $8

Crispy Fried Lasagne, Beef, Pancetta, Soffritto, San Marzano DOP

We wanted to order the burrata but it was not available. So we had the Frittatina instead. The lasagne was delicious. I love how nicely done the exterior was with its crisp-like texture, and the lasagne itself was so flavourful it actually went quite nicely together

Frittatina Carbonara $8

Crispy Fried Pasta Ball, Guanciale, Egg, Pecorino Romano, Parmigiano Reggiano

We also had the carbonara version which really tasted like carborana. Creamy and wholesome that filled up your entire palate, it was quite interesting I must say. But the lasagne version was better. If you had to choose one, I recommend the former

Broccoli al Forno $12

Oven-baked Broccoli, Sicilian Breadcrumbs, Calabrian Chilli Peppers

Wanted some veggies to feel a little healthier. It has a nice grilled taste to it but I thought it was a little too dry. So thankful for the sauce that came with it else this plate of broccoli can really go down the drains

Crab Tagliatelle $26

Crab, Tomato Confit, Garlic, Basil, Olive Oil, Butter

I had actually wanted to order the Agnolotti del Plin but when I saw the picture, I changed my mind. And I was glad I went with this Tagliatelle instead. The pasta itself was cooked al dente and each strand was coated with a combination of butter and olive oil evenly such that it was so flavourful when you savour it slowly. You could also taste a hint of lemon and the sweetness of the crab meat complemented it very well too. It was a really good choice

Tartufo e Funghi $28

Fresh Black Truffle, Truffle Oil, Mushrooms, Fiordilatte, Taleggio, Thyme

Was having a chat with the staff and the friend suddenly just mentioned – oh she had been to La Bottega before and she really likes the pizza there. The staff then said, okay you need to manage your expectations here. I lol-ed

Well I had to say. I really had to manage my expectations. Lets just say I won’t come back for the pizzas here

Diavola $20

Spicy Salame, San Marzano DOP, Fiordilatte, Parmigiano Reggiano, Basil

We had both the white and red-based pizza and I must say the red-based was definitely better in terms of flavour. The pizza itself was quite thin, soft and I would say – easy to eat. But personally, it did leave much impression on me

Friends who know me, know I don’t eat pizza. The only exception is La Bottega’s. So my opinion on the pizzas at Casa Vostra is probably not the best choice. But nevertheless, I was rather impressed by the quality of the pasta and I would come back here for them. (No wonder the table next to us only had 2 pasta and nothing else). And while leaving, we found out the chef who was in charge of the pasta was Japanese but Italian-trained and it made us take another look at this artisan who look so focused on making his pasta. Give it a try the next time if the queue looked shorter and have a taste for yourself!
