The friend wanted yakitori for her birthday so we decided to head down to Torimaro on a Jap friend’s recommendation. Since I was 30 minutes early from collecting the birthday cake, I decided to get a highball and some small dishes to start, while waiting for the rest of the troop to arrive

We were told they had a big group coming later and they had already pre-ordered hotpot (which was off their menu). Upon chatting further, the staff told us if we were to return again, we should give their hotpot a try. Sounds like a comforting food for cold weather. Unfortunately, the weather was really hot that day

Liver Ginger $8

My liver ginger appeared promptly. I really liked how well marinated it was and eating it together with the ginger slices were perfect. The liver was cooked just right and there was a slight spiciness of the ginger towards the end

Chicken Karaage $10

Then the friend appeared and went – I’m starving so we decided on Karaage next, while waiting again. Served 4 big pieces, they were good for sharing. And I shared half with her. Well, it was comfort food, nothing outstanding

Then the rest of the troop appeared and I don’t know what else they ordered

Heart $4.80/stick Special Chicken Soup $3.80

The heart was good. Well-cooked, no weird taste, worth the order. And the friend loved her chicken soup she finished it silently

Fried Aji $10

The friends seemed to love this but I thought it was just alright

Tsukune w Egg Yolk $6.80

A tad salty on its own but it went better with the egg yolk. The thickness was enjoyable, well-cooked and you could taste the juiciness of the meat

Quail Egg $3/stick

The friend wanted to give her share to me but the rest of the troop egged her to try cos a skewered quail egg taste different with the soft yolk inside, so I didn’t get to have an extra portion 😦

Crab Cream Croquette $10

Nice, crisp, breaded texture on the outside and a hot, sweet, creamy filling inside

Hokkaido White Corn $6

Was surprised the friend ordered corn cos it wasn’t the easiest to eat but glad she ordered it cos it tasted really good. I would order this again. Enough said

Deep Fried Tofu $8

Meh. Disappointed

Aburi Monkfish Liver w Ponzu Sauce $15

This wasn’t spectacular either. Even though this was on the special menu, but I felt it was a little dry overall

Sausage $7/stick

This was really salty. But I love sausages, so I would still order them. Ha

Chicken Neck $10

A limited item on their menu, they took out the bones in the neck and skewered them. These were really good, tasted just like normal chicken meat (if you are afraid). Give them a try!

Shiitake $3/stick

Uninspiring. Can pass

At some point, I was wondering how much food we had ordered cos they didn’t seem to stop coming and some dishes appeared in double portions. In her defence, the friend lamented – you guys said you are hungry! (Lol). We seemed like we haven’t ate for 3 days

Moving on..

Kampong Chicken Negima $6/stick

I thought this was tasty. I liked the well-cooked chicken with the leeks that were executed nicely 

Soft Bone $6/stick

Probably not the best but it was decent

Wings $4/pc

A little salty but it went well with the highball. I liked that they deboned the wings so you can enjoy them thoroughly 

Mozzarella w Cheese Tempura $8

Not a crowd’s favourite. Lol. Nobody seemed to touch it

Butter Hotate $18

Ordered specially for the non-innards gang

Chicken Liver Negi $6

They do some really good liver here. If you are a fan of liver that it, this was worth the order too

Toritoro $6/stick

Skin Kawa $3.80/stick

Gizzard $4

And finally, the last item appeared. I liked their gizzards too. Generally, they do really good innards here. If you are a fan of innards, you should give them all a try

I liked they have a good variety of dishes and drinks here and the staffs were really friendly. Given the huge turnout of Japanese customers, it says a lot about the authenticity of the food. If you are in the mood for some yakitori and sake, this could be one to consider
