The months-ahead reservation has finally brought us to Forma, for those with a love for pasta. Located in Joo Chiat area, the restaurant wasn’t big hence it won’t be a surprise if most of the seatings are outdoors. The outdoor seatings are enjoyable during dinner time and even better if the weather is ideal. Service is friendly there and the sommelier would be more than happy to introduce what wines they have to offer
Starters to kick-start our dinner
We were torn by the selection of starters but we decided to go with these 3 in the end
Fiori Di Zucca Fritti $26
Fried Zucchini Blossoms Stuffed w Stracciatella, Lemon Zest
Upon hearing the next table exclaiming how delicious this was, we decided this shall not be missed. To be honest, I felt it was slightly above average. I mean it was good but not fantastic. For sure, Valentino’s version is better
Burratina $26
Di Stefano Burrantina, Emeraldo Organic Evoo, Sea Salt
We didn’t like the texture of the burrata. It felt too soft and slimy and adding the sea salt made it worse. The only comfort was the bread, which I thought it was pretty decent
Polpette Di Baccala $21
Sicilian Fried Salted Cod Balls, Mashed Potato, Aleppo Chilli, Lemon Aioli
The best out of all, and I definitely recommend you going for it. The texture and the flavour of the fried balls were fantastic. It somewhat reminded me of crabmeat balls but who knew fish could be so good as well
Busiate con Pesto alla Trapanese $28
Datterini Tomatoes, Basil, Almond, Pecorino Romano DOP
A pasta with a really refreshing flavour. Love the fragrance of the basil and the tomato. The whole pasta was nicely balanced
Pappardelle e Coda alla Vaccinara $36
Braised Oxtail Ragu of Tomato, Pecorino Romano DOP, Red Wine
The pappardelle was a little disappointing, not the texture of the pasta but the flavour of it. I felt that the sauce was a little too salty overall, and the cheese made it worse
Tortellini in Brodo $34
Pork-filled Tortellini, Clear Chicken Brodo
Best out of all. This was very comforting. It’s like wanton soup. You need to give this a try. So simple but so flavourful
Specials: Tomahawk
We had an add-on special that came in the form of tomahawk. The beef was quite nicely done but the cabbage was overly salty. Not sure if it’s meant to be pickled, but it was a little overwhelming
Torta della Nonna $18
Tuscan tart w Ricotta, Chestnut Paste, Pine Nuts, Vanilla Gelato
We like the tart. It was good. Soft and crisp with the smooth chestnut paste and the fragrance of the pine nuts, washing it down with some vanilla gelato, this was pretty yummy
Biscotti $17
Hazelnut, Pistachio, Almond Crumble, Vanilla Cream, Raspberry Chips, Chocolate, Vanilla Gelato
And something for the chocolate-lovers. The dessert wasn’t a full chocolate based dessert but one made with crumbles and nuts for that added texture. I thought the desserts were quite decent overall
In my opinion, I felt Forma was a little overhyped. Granted, the texture of the pasta was really good but generally their dishes as a whole was just okay. There are definitely other Italian restaurants that serve good pasta too, so if you are unable to get a reservation here, well, there’s no need to be too upset over it
