Ever since opened in 2011, Dinner by Heston has remained one of the most decorated restaurants in London with recognition extending far and wide. And since I have been told by many to try Dinner in London, it was my first meal after I landed and I jokingly tell a friend, yah die also at least try Dinner by Heston liao. Located in Mandarin Oriental hotel and helmed by chef Ashley Palmer-Watts, the restaurant is spacious and classy with more than enough staffs to tend to your needs or wants. Lunch was a simple decision to make since we decided to go ala carte instead of the set lunch as provided since we will be able to make choices as we decide
Clear view of the kitchen
Something for you to read while you ‘unpackage’ the menu
Bread to start, which was really delicious
Meat Fruit £21
Mandarin, Chicken Liver Parfait & Grilled Bread
Probably known as one of their signatures, you haven’t been to Dinner if you didn’t try their meat fruit. Presented as a mandarin orange, you slice it open to find a smooth and blended chicken liver parfait within. Coat a layer on the toasted and buttery bread, you can savour both the cold parfait and hot toast with bursting flavours in your mouth. I have to say this dish is both a visual to the eyes and the palate
Sherried Scallop £23.50
Scallop Tartare, Grilled Shitake & Sherry Mushroom Broth
The scallops were sweet and tasted very sashimi-like, which might not fit well with some. But I do enjoy the earthiness of the broth and the black fungus to give the dish crunch and texture
Frumenty £21.50
Grilled Octopus, Spelt, Smoked Sea Broth, Pickled Dulse & Loovage
The octopus has a nice texture to it which was easy to chew on. Love the complement of the sweet broth with a smoky aftertaste
Cod in Cider, Chard & Smoked Artichokes £37
The cod was outstanding, but the party of vegetables shined as well
Roast Halibut & Green Sauce £45
Braised Chicory, Parsley, Pepper, Onion & Eucalyptus
The fish was good, but I thought I enjoyed the sides and the sauce more than the main dish itself. Green sauce does sound and look dubious, but the slight acidity complements the sweetness of the fish to balance the dish
Hereford Ribeye £46
Mushroom Ketchup & Triple Cooked Chips
Sambocade £15
Goats Milk Cheese Cake, Elderflower & Apple, Roast Figs and Smoked Candied Walnut
Well, all I can say is if you are a fan of cheese cake and milk (and heavy flavours), you will like this dish. lol
Chocolate Bar £15.50
Passion Fruit Jam & Ginger Icecream
Probably a hit with chocolate fans, the bar was seriously gao. So glad it came with a scoop of ginger icecream to wash the sweet and dense chocolate taste
Eggs in Verjuice £15.50
Verbena & Coconut Pannacotta, Coffee Parfait, Verjuice & Citrus
Well, the panna cotta definitely score all points for being pretty. Housed in a white chocolate shell, you give it a gentle knock with a spoon to reveal the surprise inside
Smooth, creamy, light flavours of coconut, and everything edible on the plate
Even their post dessert was spectacular
It is easy to understand why this place is so raved about, and I do agree it’s definitely worth a visit. Food aside, I think the experience is probably something you will remember. And of course, the price too
