I really wanted to try a Yakitori place in Tokyo so I found Yakitori Shinohara online. Located in Nishiazabu and priced at ¥16,000 for the chef’s tasting course, there is only one menu available. I went for the earlier seating at 5.30pm cos I wanted to rest earlier for the evening but to my surprise, everyone reached very early and were just waiting outside in the cold even before the restaurant opened

Staffs were very friendly and could speak some English, so at least there were conversation going on from time to time. I wanted to just order a highball but they didn’t have it on the menu (why??). So in the end I went for the sake/wine pairing

They started with a bowl of chicken soup to warm your stomach. It was very flavourful. I wished they had given more. lol

Tofu with Ichigo
Didn’t know tofu and strawberry can go so well together. The firmness of the tofu with the sweetness of strawberries was simple yet impressionable. It was so good

Chef’s Signature Raw Meatball w Egg Yolk
Wow. This was impressive. The sweetness of the chicken with the burst of yolk and wrapping it up with the fragrance of the seaweed was simply delicious. Like I could have another portion of this

Grilled Shitake Mushroom
This was so juicy but I thought was lacking the mushroom sweetness a tiny bit

Chawanmushi
This steamed egg custard somewhat tasted like cheese to me. lol. It had a very unique taste which I can’t quite put a finger to it

Kaka Niku
Grilled very well but abit on the blander side. Still, you can taste the fattiness of it. Still generally very yums

Sweet Potato
It goes very well with the Sauvignon Blanc I must say

Chicken Oyster w Leek
Wah it’s so good. You could hear everyone exclaiming about it. lol. It’s quite funny. I was last to be served so when I could finally try a piece of this. my eyes just widened instantly

Just given some radish suddenly. I would think it’s part of the course and for you to wash down the oiliness

Quail Egg
The quail egg was so soft inside and I finished both of them in one bite each

Liver
The liver also made an impression. But I never thought chicken liver tasted this good. This was melt-in-the-mouth and there was no strong liver taste so for those who worry, you can give this a try

Tomatoes

Hatsumoto
It’s rare to come across Hatsumoto but this was fatty, flavourful and chewy

Gizzard
I thought the gizzard were just okay. I felt like other parts were done much better

Pate with Homemade Bread
It’s not as sweet and creamy to what I usually come across but this goes well with the orange wine

Chicken & Ginko Springroll
Damn legit good. Not often you come across spring roll served in yakitori places but I could have another piece of this. Like this was piping hot, crispy but so flavourful inside

Eggplant
Very. Sweet

Tataki of Chicken Thigh, Chicken Breast

Tsubaki
Oh wow, this was another piece that could top the league. It’s really quite amazing

Tsukune
Not your usual tsukune cos it’s less saucy than most places. But that also meant you could taste the meatball original as it was. And this was quite delicious too

Chicken Heart
I added on the chicken heart as an extra piece. This was pretty decent – sweet and tender

Claypot Rice

Ramen w Chicken Broth
To end the meal with both rice and ramen was really too much. lol. Both were simple but very delicious and I was so full by this point in time

Thankfully dessert was just a scoop of Caramel icecream
I thought the meal was pretty decent here and there were so many pieces I wished I could have another portion of it. Though by the time I’m done with my meal, I was so full I wanted to roll out of the door. It was pretty enjoyable dining there as the chefs made it enjoyable and liven up the atmosphere and you could definitely not find such quality in Singapore
